Not saying Nonis will never trade for him. I just don't think Gillis will accept what Nonis would be willing to give at this point. Leafs position has changed dramatically since the earlier deal was turned down by Lu.

That's not really news. It's always been known that both Burke and Nonis had interest in Luongo if the price was right. The price was wrong so they passed.

If Luongo vetoed a trade to Toronto thinking a deal to Fla. was there, the price wasn't always wrong.

Also hearing Leafs are interested in the likes of Kulikov and Yandle. Wouldn't mind either of those two as long as no young Dmen(Percy, Finn, Reilly, Gards) are involved.


Still not buying the Luongo rumors. I think Nonis knows getting Kipper makes more practical sense because of the contract.

The Leafs cap situation isn't bad going into next year even if Kadri gets 4 million or so. The option for buyouts and the realistic price tag of the guys needing to be resigned they should be fine. Bozak will not get more than 4 a year from anybody I'm sure, and trading for Loungo just wastes an opportunity to develop the young goalies. Only reason to get him is if they really believe this group can go all the way with him.

It is very fortunate Loungo said no to the trade. Reminds me of when Sundin declined the two year 20 million from Gillis, would have meant no Sedins the following year, lucky for them.

Are you completely oblivious to the struggle contending teams have paying their players, and keeping a team together under a cap system? Take a look at the list of cup winners over the past 8 years, and how their teams have been picked and torn apart because they couldn't keep them together under the cap. Then take a look at the list of teams that couldn't even get there, and their window closed for the same reason. And you seem to think throwing a couple of mil in cap space around is just meaningless. Get a clue.

I think that GM's are their own worst nightmare. If a player has a good season they overpay him instead of basing salary contracts on a career's body of work. They have made this league speculative and that is a serious danger. Leino anyone???
