If we trade Bozak, who exactly is going to take his place? Kadri, right, but until Kadri's FO% is even near league average, we're never going to have the puck off the draw.
- gravyface

Only way Nonis trades Bozak is if he brings in another center...

7.7 million for 50 points?

Vancouver might go for it but it's far from ideal.

K did you not read what james duthie ‏@tsnjamesduthie 30 Mar

9 yrs left on deal: If Luongo plays 5 more years, team will have 1.7m cap hit each of the 4 yrs after he retires. (6yrs=1.65x3)(7=1.2x2)

If Bozak demands anything of 4M and over, you ship him off, and make some other stupid team pay that

- Mapleleafs_91

you let him walk, and don't trade for Luongo.

$1.7M cap hit for a player not playing. Awesome. Where can I get more of that for free?

this is why you don't count.

just say no to Bozak for Luongo, Grabs or nothing
- bobbyisno1

Obviously they'd have to take salary back.

I don't even want to think about it though, it's just such a bad idea considering how solid the team is and how goaltending really hasn't been a genuine weakness.

With one of the best PKs in the league(never though I'd hear myself say that) we have the tools needed to make it through a round or two. What we could use is another Dman, I mentioned Robidas above as an excellent candidate.

pretty sure the cost is an issue because of the contract...
- Big_Lightnin

Apparently the deal was done and Luongo wouldn't waive at the time...

Bob McCowan on Sportsnet radio today said that Brian Burke told him in December that the Canucks wanted Jake Gardiner and Nazem Kadri for Luongo. The Leafs owners apparently asked Burke if he thought they would make playoffs with Luongo in the lineup. His answer? "Absolutely". They asked why he hadn't made the deal, and he apparently told the owners it was not the right deal for the team long term.
- fifty__missions

If thats true good on Burke. Did a good job overall, just couldn't keep his mouth shut.

I'm glad to hear that Burke said that.

Even though I find it hard to believe that the Canucks would want anything to do with the Leafs prospects... all of whom are of course busts.

Yep...That said MLSE had not problem taking Luongo's contract..It didn't happen because of Luo , not his monster contract..
- Fruitcakenipple

Who ever doubted MLSE had a problem with the contract? They'll pay for pretty much anything.

That's not really news. It's always been known that both Burke and Nonis had interest in Luongo if the price was right. The price was wrong so they passed.

The logic of leaf fans. "Grabo wont be traded, they will have cap issues next year"

Alberts: 1.25M

Maholtra: 2.5M

Raymond: 2.275M

Higgins: 1.9M

= Almost 8M gone next year if they dont resign those guys, to make grabo fit in with his cap if traded for luu

- Mapleleafs_91

so what will be the difference when Bozak wants his 4 plus next year?
Grabs and Luus cap hit are almost the same.plus, the Leafs need Bozak more than they need Grabs

I found the discussion with ownership interesting, actually. Especially given what happened to Burke a few weeks later.

Implying 1.7M is alot, we paid tucker close to that for so long, who cares, complains, yet were like the richest franchise, plus the cap will probably be higher by that time. Complains of 1.7 The leafs poop that out daily

Must have been close to what Gillis was asking for if not why would he have asked Luo about accepting a move to Leafs..

Nonis acquired Luongo from Florida back when he was with Vancouver and it was pretty much the only thing that put him and the Canucks on the map.

He'll do it again if the price is right.

Hopefully it doesn't happen. I hope some other team is stupid enough to pay the price before Nonis does or that Luongo keeps blocking the move.

Burke got fired because of his personality and how it conflicted with people higher on the corporate ladder, not because he didn't acquire Luongo. If the reason why he got fired was because he didn't acquire Luongo, why didn't Nonis instantly acquire him?

Burke is to arrogant and to out there, Nonis is fairly quiet when it comes to the media, thats what they wanted, plus arguably could of been a distraction to the team
