Not until after they get eliminated from the playoffs.

How many Canucks fans would be enraged by a Lecavalier and Garon for Luongo and Ballard trade?

- Two_For_Truth

Although it's expensive, to have Lecavalier, you still have him on the ice, where Luongo's 5.5 million dollars is planted on the bench. Better to have a playing asset then one that isn't playing, most of the time.

This is what he was claiming..

"Last week in Phoenix when the Canucks were in town there, Vancouver assistant GM Laurence Gilman met with his old pal and mentor Cliff Fletcher, senior adviser with the Leafs. Those two guys talk all the time but, on this occasion, Fletcher revisited the Luongo dialogue with Gilman.

That conversation between Gilman and Fletcher sparked Vancouver GM Mike Gillis to follow up and phone Toronto GM Dave Nonis this past week to further explore those talks.

This in itself is a story because Gillis and Nonis, I don’t believe, have ever spoken to each other regarding any trade, as some ill will existed after the former replaced the latter as GM in Vancouver. Usually it’s been other members of each front office communicating on Luongo, not Gillis and Nonis straight on. So that’s perhaps an important shift in this story.

Gillis and Nonis spoke this week and, while there’s no deal that’s imminent and there may never be a deal, it certainly appears there’s groundwork built here for the two teams to keep tabs on this until Wednesday

With this trade, Nonis holds all the cards. Its up to him what he thinks. If bozak is going to demand crazy money, and were going to let him walk. Might as well ship him off.

Why would they be enraged? They get another top notch centerman and get rid of ballard Thats more power for offense instead of luu sitting on the bench. Id be happy for that trade if i was a nucks fan

Not saying Nonis will trade for Luongo but to say Nonis isn't having talks regarding him imo is wrong..

It's cost of return and not Luo's contract that prevents him from being a Leaf..

FLA, TOR, ...?, ...?
- celata29

and two teams in the KHL...

c'mon you know this stuff is nonsense... Gillis perhaps is a little late to the party - having just realized how ph_cked is with regard to the CAP....

now its deal Luongo ... and all we want is Bozak and 1st... whatever ...

perhaps now, he(Gillis) like the epsilon semi-morons in Canuckehead nation will realize that the return on Luongo will make the Ignila deal like look a giant win for Calgary....

it is a CAP dump of a contract with another 8-9 years on it... that's what is being traded.

Gilman said talks with various clubs were 'past the kicking the tires phase', but still reiterated that Van. wants a '3rd line centre'. If they are past kicking tires with 'various teams', why is he still negotiating in the media? I'm calling a big fat bullshiit on Gilman here. There are no 'various teams', and it seems pretty clear they want at the very least Bozak. Don't do it, Nonis.

What is the point of bringing in a goalie with playoff experience for the playoffs? How about growing as a team and letting the kids play? There is going to have to be a point where James Reimer plays playoff hockey so that he too can have playoff experience. This is a great opportunity for all our young guys to see what the playoffs are all about.

Lecavalier isn't a top notch center anymore. Hasn't been for awhile. Also carries a 7.7 million dollar cap hit and an annual salary of 10 million dollars for the next three years. Not exactly an ideal acquisition.

K did you not read what james duthie ‏@tsnjamesduthie 30 Mar

9 yrs left on deal: If Luongo plays 5 more years, team will have 1.7m cap hit each of the 4 yrs after he retires. (6yrs=1.65x3)(7=1.2x2)

If Bozak demands anything of 4M and over, you ship him off, and make some other stupid team pay that

I think Leaf management unlike most fans and feel the Leafs could do some damage in the playoffs...

I doubt they saying "This yr all about gaining experience"..They want to win as many playoff games as they can..An experienced goaltender can help accomplish that..

Luongo said no to a trade to Toronto because he thought a deal with Florida was going to get done.

The only goalie I'd be moderatly interested in is Kipprusoff. If we can keep him for another year and not have it cost us too much then it's beneficial over the short-medium term.

That's not to take anything away from how solid Ben has been in his short stint with the big club, and I would still lean towards hanging onto what we have. We're playing with house money. We should have been dead last according to most people, so these guys deserve a chance to roll it.

Robidas is a guy I'd have some interest in...Liles and a pick could get him.

Funny though how Clowe finally reaches the deadline and we're not one of the top teams looking to land him

7.7 million for 50 points?

Vancouver might go for it but it's far from ideal.

Bob McCowan on Sportsnet radio today said that Brian Burke told him in December that the Canucks wanted Jake Gardiner and Nazem Kadri for Luongo. The Leafs owners apparently asked Burke if he thought they would make playoffs with Luongo in the lineup. His answer? "Absolutely". They asked why he hadn't made the deal, and he apparently told the owners it was not the right deal for the team long term.

The logic of leaf fans. "Grabo wont be traded, they will have cap issues next year"

Alberts: 1.25M

Maholtra: 2.5M

Raymond: 2.275M

Higgins: 1.9M

= Almost 8M gone next year if they dont resign those guys, to make grabo fit in with his cap if traded for luu

If we trade Bozak, who exactly is going to take his place? Kadri, right, but until Kadri's FO% is even near league average, we're never going to have the puck off the draw.

According to Mike Keenan and Nick Kypreos the only way Kiprusoff stays in the NHL is if a team gives him a multi-year deal that is big enough to keep him interested.
