Does he go to the net? Does he plant himself there? That is what they wanted. A forward with size doesn't necessarily equate to a power forward, rather a guy who will go to the front of the net and take punishment to get goals. See Dave Andreychuk. - mykokes
Again, he has a fraction of the talent that Dave Andreychuk has. Andreychuk was scoring 30, 40 and even 50 goals a year. van Riemsdyk has barely cracked 20.
So what does he have left? He has his size. He has the advantage of being bigger than a lot of players. If Kadri can attempt to throw big hits, why the hell can't van Riemsdyk? Is he scared that his 2nd big issue might creep up? The fact that he's made of glass? |

he has zero hockey knowledge...don't let yourself get pulled into his little weak negative world..not sure if he's ever watched a game..he's probably tired and heads to bed as soon as his favourite curling match is over. |

Trading Schneider might be the way they avoid a very expensive buyout option on Luongo this summer... |

Is he on a 30 goal pace? If the answer is yes, he's doing his job. |

No, they clearly stated, time and time again, they wanted a forward with size. But a forward with size who rarely uses it defeats the purpose of it. - Two_For_Truth
they wanted a forward with size who could win battles on the boards and in front of net, which, more often than not, he has done.
Seems like only one who was expecting JVR to be a true power forward was you.

When van Riemsdyk actually went to the dirty areas, he actually scored goals.
Unless you believe he always goes to the dirty areas and he only scores when he gets lucky and the puck is on his stick with a wide open net. |

Yes, let's pro-rate all the numbers. He was on pace for 60 goals. Then 50. Then 40. Now 30. What's next? His usual 20? |

And what's the point of having a forward with size who uses it half of the time? Does he possess Sundin-like skill? No. So does he scores when he gets lucky and just lets his natural size advantage go to waste?
Antropov and Ponikarovsky use to win battles on the boards and in front of the net too. Doesn't mean they used their size to their advantage and took advantage of their full potential. |

And when Lucic isn't scoring he's beating the hell out of players either physically or with his fists.

It'll be reported that he has been traded to Philly then an hour later, it'll be confirmed he's going to Toronto. |

most of his goals have been scored from the slot/front of the net - usually with guys on him.
he uses his size quite well for offense. You're pissed cause he doesn't hit enough for your liking. That's it.

Ok, in his last 79 gp he has 25 goals and 22 assists, better?
Seriously, don't waste my time by twisting my words or by talking to me about sample sizes. I have no patience for it anymore.....not from you or anyone. Is JVR a powerforward, no. Is he a big forward producing better numbers than he was at 22, yes. Is there a window for him to get better and mature? Yes. So what's the problem? He's got one point in 7 gp, that's concerning, I agree, but overall, if I was grading him on this season, I'd say he's doing what I hoped and better than I expected. Most of the Leafs are save for Grabovski and Gardiner. And JVR's got time to get better, which is what the whole concept of going young is all about. |
