It's clear the Toronto Maple Leafs want to make a move between the pipes, but whether they acquire Robero Luongo or Miikka Kiprusoff remains to be seen.

The Leafs and Canucks revisited Luongo trade talks last week and have continued the dialogue over the last few days.

However, in order to acquire Luongo, the Leafs have to give up center Tyler Bozak, which they're willing to do only if they can replace him in the lineup through a separate trade with another team.

The Leafs have shown interest in Dallas center Derek Roy, and have recently been scouting the Stars -- Leafs top scout Mike Penny took in Dallas' 3-2 loss to Los Angeles Sunday night.

Leafs GM Dave Nonis and Canucks GM Mike Gillis will keep talks going with the trade deadline a couple of days away.

"Mike is in discussion with multiple teams," Canucks assistant GM Laurence Gilman told TSN's Farhan Lalji. "Talks are beyond the 'tire kicking' stage."

Nonis is also in talks with the Calgary Flames about Kiprusoff, who is willing to play for another team under the right circumstances.

The initial price tag on Kiprusoff included a first-round pick, something the Leafs are not willing to part with. Talks between the two clubs have also continued.

If the Leafs acquire Luongo, he will become the club's new No. 1 goalie, replacing James Reimer. However, if the club lands Kiprusoff, he and Reimer will presumably split the goaltending duties.

Clowe is a better fit for the habs than the bruins. Bruins cant score and neither can Clowe, so that doesnt help much.

Habs or Bruins will get him.

true... what Nonis is no doubt trying to manage is less the on-ice team and the heads and mindset of his young goaltenders. if he(Nonis) acquires a veteran goalie he quietens the media machine fueled by the morons Cox, Simmons, Berger etc ... about how will the "young inexperienced goaltenders handle the increase pressure of the playoffs"...

shouldn't be necessary but in the Toronto market it is... unfortunately.

if anything Nonis should be coming out publicly and labeling his team as underdogs .. how no one expected them to really make the playoffs ... let them play free without overthinking... this is where I miss Burke....

You're the one over thinking. Just believe man, quit fearing whats not being said to protect our players (fear attracts negative circumstance), just believe and don't fear what bad things can happen, because bad things always eventually turn into good things over time. Our players are fine. They are thriving on the energy of the city right now, people are starting to realize how good we can really be and that's all that matters. The talk of acquiring a goaltender is to keep our goalies under the radar. Its reverse psychology. Tell the media our goalies aren't good enough, and let them prove us wrong while we really aren't considering a move anyway. Sounds just fine to me.

How do you add Luongo and buy more on top of that and solve your cap challenges at the same time? Especially with the cap going down...

Nobody is taking Komi...

- systemtool

the net add next year would Luongo's CAP hit 5M, and the difference between what Gunnarson and Liles make versus Edler.... which would apprxomately -1.5M...

Komisarek is just the tax the Gillis would have to pay... yes I understand no would willing take him on... but Gillis would be buying himself out of the Luongo turd contract by giving up Edler and taking on the Leaf contracts.

most leaf fans remember that era fondly

they were knocked out in roound one after finishing 9th overall

hardly a powerhouse by any stretch.. they were a middle of the pack playoff team.. not a favorite at all.

- Dozzer

Ummm they finished the year with 103 points... and they won the first round against ottawa...

They were not 9th overall... they had

Sundin, Mogilny, Roberts, Nieuwendyk, Nolan, McCabe, Leech, Kaberle, Tucker, Fizgerald, and... Belfour...

you misunderstood me.. or more likely I did a bad job of articulating it....

I don't think Nonis will acquire a veteran goalie, he's just going through the motions to keep the media monkeys at bay...

Switch Frattin with Grabbo?
Also think we need another RT Dman and Robidas is damn good player.
Roy is better then any centre we have except Kadri.

Iginla got a 1st round pick plus not much more... couple of low end prospects (no offense). That 1st rounder would likely be a 27-30 pick in any normal season.

No, Nonis should not give up a 1st round pick , which will likely be in the middle of the first round for a 36 year old declining above average defenseman.
