I agree Clarkson isn't worth what he is going to want plus he could end up just signing in Toronto or something.. Better to get something for him now even if it is a pick.. On that note though, getting Kovalchuk and Zubrus back should boost the offense if we could pry Jagr from Dallas that would be huge but wouldn't count on it and if we are going to stand pat on that front WE have to improve our Defense if we really think we are getting past the likes of Pittsburgh, Montreal or Boston in the first round...

I doubt anybody would give us a 1st unless they are a good squad and feel Clarkson is the missing piece for a cup.....we might want to look at younger players who might be "stuck" in a program and just need a chance to play (like Lokti). There are some out there.....(I would love to get Chris Kreider from you know who but that will never happen .........but a player like that might be more realistic then a 1st rder)

unfortunately I agree with you....I think he'll go to Toronto if Devils don't "show him the money" and I'm not sure how high they will go ...now the Islanders could throw "funny" money at him but he loves Toronto. This is why Lou should negotiate during the season so this way we know what Clarkson wants...then I would probably do that trade with you.

Would prefer Bernier? However, not sure Van would do the Clarkson for Kesler, especially since Clarkson is not signed. Also, they want a second line center right now that will be slotted as a third liner center once Kesler is healthy, so maybe JJ and Moose for Schneider.

I meant the Devils 9503 as in 95-03, they were pretty much a dynasty throughout that period, only the Wings could compare at that time.

The one thing about over paying Clarkson is that he has a unique mix of being able to score 20-30 goals, drop the gloves and play a physical game. If there is one guy my team over pays for this off season, it's him. Very rare type of player, and while the Leafs are among the leagues best offensive teams and have the most fights, they sorely lack a guy who can score and play big. Hard to find, so an overpayment can be forgiven in this instance.
