I just want to give you guys some perspective, if I may.
In 2010, the Flyers traded Gagne who was fresh off of posting 12 points in 19 playoff games. He had 1 year left until UFA status. The return was Matt Walker and a 4th. I know TDL deals bring greater returns, but this isn't NHL 13, and no teams fighting for a playoff spot that makes a deadline deal is going to give you a player that will weaken them going into the playoffs. So teams like Anaheim, NYI, LA, Columbus, and Edmonton probably aren't looking to move key pieces. |

Weren't you also the guy pumping his chest before the season about the Sabres showing the Flyers that this Sabres team was for real? I doubt your foresight. - jmatchett383
We DID dominate you guys in our first game... so... he's 1/2 right. |

Anyone else think that we were trying to do a bigger deal with stl for goalies or sfewart or oshie... but couldn't agree so just settled for the rental for picks trade? - JVince11
We got a good look at their goalies when they played w Montreal n Ottawa... I'm gonna guess we aren't very interested...
The time to trade for Stewart has prob passed... We likely could've had him at a reasonable price before the season, but now that he's doing so well it's gonna cost us to get him...
And I doubt they trade any roster players till the offseason since they wanna make a run
Maybe an early exit & they'll jump in on the Miller sweepstakes
I can't imagine they'd trade Backes, with w him having such an awful season, if it were ever gonna happen it would be now
But they have plenty of young talent I like
Miller for Stewart + + ?
I could see that happen |

You do realize this is the year 2013 right?
You do realize that other teams that feel they are close as well have seen what Pittsburgh is trying to do?
You do realize what the Penguins have done for teams like Buffalo (sellers with some attractive veteran pieces) right now right?
This could very well be a fantastic trade deadline for the Sabres if Darcy plays his hands right. |

This was in response to anyone thinking they'll get anything of great value from a team like LA, or Edmonton, or Anaheim...or, getting a better return for a 500+ goal scoring captain for a 60 point-per-year captain (who's been dissed on here over nad over again) with 1 year left. Pittsburgh got arguably the best captain in the NHL for 2 college kids and a 1st. Don't expect any rosters players or backup goalies coming back from playoff teams. |

also, some of that perspective might be remembering that they traded gagne because they had cap problems, emergence of rookies, and a stacked team, right? |

No, I was unaware of the year, thanks for the reminder.
So your proposed LA deal...what happens in they trade Bernier to the Sabres and Quick gets injured? On paper it's a fine deal, but any playoff team, or team close to the playoffs, are looking to add players, not swap them.
If you want to trade them all for picks, or keep them and trade in the offseason, that's different. |

All the stuff we've said about guys like Ryan, Bernier, etc. obviously aren't going to happen at trade deadline... (If they happen at all). Most of us are expecting guys like Miller to go at the draft for roster guys. |

Regehr getting serious consideration from Pittsburgh, who have two scouts here right now. Replacing Paul Martin is a priority for Shero - garth
How is Pitt fitting all this under the cap?!

Also important: Gagne was done as a contributing player to the top 6 and as soft as tissue paper. |

I'd say it's largely because of Crosby taking a MASSIVE discount. He's getting only 8.7 million when he should be getting 15. |

He was always going to get a 2nd. Murray's trade helped Leo fetch more than just a 2nd. The 5th turns into a 4th if they win a playoff series. I'm okay with that. - theblueandgold
I didnt think he'd get a second, I guess you had a crystal ball. |

He didnt take a massive discount. Hes getting paid 9-12 Million for the next 9 years.
They circumvented the cap under the allowable old CBA to bring his cap hit down. |
