Scrubs like Leopold and Murray are getting 2nd+ returns so of course Luongo can bring in a way better return. A stud goalie>>>>>2nd pairing d-man.
- Nucker101

a stud goalie with a disgusting contract < 2nd pairing dman on expiring contract

you wouldnt even get a 2nd for luongo, no one would take that contract. any deal for luongo is taking on a bad contract the other way...

unless you are like vantel and think luongo will be traded for...

wait for it...

If Lu is so valuble, why don't Canucks just keep him? Schneider will bring back a better trade return.oh yeah, its because of that horrible contract. The same one that makes him untradeable. Why do I feel like were talking in circles?.
- Jeropotato

I'm really at a loss to internalize what hockey fans can't understand that the issue with Luongo is his contract - not the player or whether he's a nice guy.

Let's make this simple

1) if Luongo was an expiring contract and a FA July 1st 2013... he would garner a return significantly better than what Iginla got... mainly because he isn't believed to be at the end of his career
2) if Luongo had a contract that was for another 2 or 3 years at 5+M per year, he would get a good return.
3) if someone was offered Ville Leino today what would he trade value be?
4) what was Scott Gomez's trade value last year at this time when there were no compliance buyouts?

is the picture getting clearer?

Luongo will not garner much return for THREE reasons:

1) Gillis has painted himself and the team into a corner from a CAP Management perspective... he(Gillis) has to effectively give LUongo away for no real return IF he expects to not take any salary back in return
2) Gillis has painted himself and the team into a corner from a player perspective because of the statements about Schneider being #1 and the end of last year and because Schneider was signed to a pretty lucrative deal himself
3) because Gillis made himself look like a complete ding-dong with what he expected in return for Luongo - when anyone who took more than 5 second long look at the Canucks cap situation realized they were a mess - then he(Gillis) turns around and signs Edler to $5M per and Garrison is added at $4.6M per - all the while needed to sign another 6-7 players without any space.

In short.. Gillis has handcuffed the Canucks - and anyone who's arguing otherwise hasn't looked at the CAP situation. And to be clear - I'm not saying that Luongo is a bad player...

I can understand why they'd wanna trade with us...BUT, why would we wanna trade with them?

Tallon isn't gonna budge with the young horses getting ready. Guaranteed.
We have NO need for Luongo. None.

Way too far out of the playoff picture to even consider. T-bay is much more possible but even they have cap space issues next year if they took him.

Everyone knows Lu isn't the issue, it is his contract. If Van doesn't move him by the deadline, it will be a monumental failure by Mike Gillis.

If the only real offer is Bozak straight up, you take it. The market isn't what you think it should be, only what teams are willing to pay for him. Put the ego aside, get a centre who can win a (frank)ing draw for a change.

You think the owners would allow for a buyout in the summer? Or is that just way too much coin?

Hey Mike - honest mistake in giving him that contract. We're happy to pay $27m. By the way, how is Booth doing?

I'm curious... whats a worse contract.

Lu having say... 3 or 4 years left at 6.5-7 million (because thats what he would have got with like a 6 or 7 year contract) or another 9 years left with a 5.3 million cap hit.

Neither of those would have been too appealing... obviously Gillis would have loved to sign him for 5 or 6 years at 5 million per. But thats not what his worth was.. especially when guys like Ward and Lundqvist were getting close to 7 million.

Lengthy with lower cap hit... or average term with high cap hit. Neither one at this point would look amazing... at least at this point.. a team like toronto could buy him out in 4 or 5 years once he is done or Lu would most likely retire and Canucks are stuck with that cap penalty. Either way.. looks like a pretty good deal for any team interested in him. Its a bigger gamble for Canucks, if anything. There is also that chance he could play well into age 40/41 like Brodeur or Hasek. Its not out of the question. People are just assuming that he is going to regress in 3 or 4 years.

Luongo makes us no better. Markstrom has the job, and more than likely a FA will back him next year. For the millionth time, look somewhere else. Get off it already.

the sad part is that vantel was 100% serious.

my predicted trade offer was bozak/kadri + higher salary player for luongo. he talked so much poop to me, and when i asked him what his realistic return was, he said "CLOWE + HAVLAT"

if a luongo trade does happen with the leafs, it is looking more and more like i will be correct.

vantel is the definition of a nucks homer who couldnt take off his homer glasses.

the funny part is, he still cant admit he was wrong. what a joke!
