MLSE or the fans wont give a flying FK about cap hit after he retires if he helps bring a cup back to the City..

There in lies the prob...Will Luongo help Leafs win a championship???..Ultimately thats what Nonis has to decide..

- Fruitcakenipple

Considering he never brought a much better Vancouver a Cup I fail to see how he will in Toronto in his twilight. We ain't winning this year so in 3-4 years when we're hopefully really ready to compete and Luongo is a cap hit anchor to Toronto then yes the fans will care very much.

Rask did not have the kind of leverage Lindros did.
- Mr_Clean

Everyone has that kind of leverage, if they don't want to play, that's that.

Avs can't trade O Reilly right now because of the waiver rule I think. Also that price isn't even close.

See there's the problem....I'm pretty sure MLSE/Nonis not interested in waiting 3-4 years to compete for a cup..

Imo the Leafs need a center and a #1 goaltender there no way Nonis drafting and waiting to develop these positions..He will try to fill them via trade or FA..

There is a goaltender available and u can bet Nonis trying to land him..

Or but look at the number of players playing a lot longer than they have in the past.
- Yeti1181

Not really a few have had excellent longevity but the new NHL is younger than ever. Lots of players in the old NHL played to 40 or longer. Chelios to 45. Mr. Gordie Howe till he was 70.

Way way way too risky and for what? Why the crazy impatience now? I'm pumped just to see a playoff round. Let's see what the you g guys got and go from there.

Well if that's the case we can forget about winning a Cup ever. If our idiot owners arnt willing to wait 3-4 years then they know nothing about hockey or how to build a team and will ultimately be our downfall.

They all have some kind of leverage, it's called the refusal to sign their name on a contract.

I think they'll move Statsny soon though, these are the moves I hope the Leafs make

Liles+Bozak+conditional second(if Bozak resigns)-Statsny

Not impatient but you have a chance to get an elite goalie then you take it they don't grow on trees. If you can upgrade you do.

Leafs get luongo, luongo carries us farther than the canucks, schneider poops the bed without luu
- Mapleleafs_91

But the reality is, can Lou get us past the Bruins and the Penquins in a 7 game series in the next few years?...including this year?.....especially when we have to (frank) up our first line by shipping out kessel's only centre he's known here as well as one of our best faceoff guys?.....NO

The concern is that our goalies are inexperienced.....well how the (frank) do they get experience if we dont put them in a playoff situation?...this is the next logical step to our team's growth....playoff experience and the emotional mind (frank) of winning and losing that comes with it....IMO no goalie trades right now...they brought us to this point this season, they've earned this....and we're not getting past the Bruins or the Penquins this year even with another goalie..

The story I remember hearing at the time was Rask thought he would always be a number 2 to Pogge, and he didn't want to sign with the Leafs, so they traded him.

2.47 GAA and .904 SV% is elite these days??? Hmmmm. A goalie beaten out of his crease by a young gun. A guy on the decline with a top 5 worst contract in the NHL. A guy with a reputation for the big meltdown and the soft goal.

Not enough,

Try Gardiner/Kulimen, I know that's a ton, but we have some good wingers, Morgan Reilly coming up, and center's are at a premium......

Wait for what?....This is a young team who's sitin 6th in the East that needs to fill a couple of positions to make them a very competitive team as early as next season..

Why would they simply rely on draft to be competitive 4yrs time if they could do it sooner...

So he wasn`t under contract when the Leafs traded him? Leafs screwed up again, we should have traded Shultz to Edmonton for a 1st before he signed with them
