I'm not getting in between your guys arguemnt, just stating thats what happens on here all the time - david22
I think it's 9/10 trades in the NHL have involved at least 1 draft pick with the exception of that minor league deal from Edmonton and Phoenix. 12 picks in total, only 1 was a first, clearly all picks are integral in making deals.
Edit: I just disagree with your point, it has nothing to do with my other argument. |

The Buffalo Sabres have dealt defenceman Jordan Leopold to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for a second round and conditional fifth round draft pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.
the 5th rounder clinched it |

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic but clearly it was a factor, or it wouldn't have been part of the deal. |

Luongo and this years first rounder to the Leafs for a hearty handshake and pat on the back from Nonis to Gillis for not being stupid. |

And that adds another goalie to the glut of goalies available now that aren`t going anywhere |

I won't be surprised if Gillis loses his job over this one. The nucks are strapped for cap space and the inability to move Luongo is really going to handcuff them further. I don't think the ownership is going to want to want to cough up 40 mil for the buy out. Luongo's value just keeps dropping further too. |

Add 1 of St Louis goalies it`s getting uglier by the day for Gillis |

That's probably why talks resumed he was told to make a deal for him. Ownership probably not thrilled paying 6+ mil for the back up |

According to a certain Sabres enthusiast? Probably along the lines of Kadri or Gardiner, another top leafs prospect and a first. |

Nonis has him by the short and curlies so to speak. I hope he doesn't mess it up somehow this is where it would be good to have Burke.
"We wanted to give you what we thought was fair and you wanted too much, now you don't have any options, we want you to take half of his contract and Komisarek" Burke would say |

Hell with St.Louis now, there are going to be so many options this summer its crazy for the leafs to give up anything for Luongo |

In terms of what u would have to give up Luongo would be a steal compared to what it would cost to land Miller..
Miller cost u 2013 1st and Gardiner for sure...Might take more..
Luo's contract hurts trade value..I would rather have Luongo over Miller ... |

I wasn't knocking putting picks in a trade. But on this site you always see trades and people will throw in a 3rd or 4th thinking that will make a bad deal fair. |

Except Luongo's contract is massive. Miller is 6.5 or something for two more years before UFA. |

That's fair, there are some bad trade proposals that fit that criteria
I don't really see what is unreasonable about the ones I have suggested:
Liles+Bozak+conditional second(if Bozak resigns)-Statsny
Percy/Finn/Blacker+2nd+4th/5th-Burns
Macarthur+Ashton+4th/5th- Clowe
I could go in to more depth and explanation on each of these, but they are just guidelines of the rough value I think it would take to bring in these players which would help our team now and in the future. |
