The newer generation of suits in the repective flames and oilers offices have a very strong relationship. We both work with the same governments when dealing with lotto revenue and associated regulatory issues, as well as many other facets. The working relationship between the two offices started prior to the previous cba. When both teams were trying ti get every break from the provincial government and maximize revenue streams. Right up including different ways to milk the most of out arena space. An example is officials from the saddle dome were wondering how the oilers managed to have concesion space in the bsmt and toured the building to see it work.
So if they get along real well and the teams collectively are heading in the opposite direction of bottom it only makes sender to work together at an arms length on the ice as well.
What would have been considered taboo long ago during the eighties was shattered with the dealing of a veteran steve stalks to the flames by the oilers for a journeyman defenceman and a 2nd round pick - Oilerulez
Very informative. Thank you.

The Oil will land Yandle to play with J.Shultz. But, we're gonna lose Hemmer or Gags. |

You wouldn't, however the dumbass that runs your team would let him go for peanuts. Do the Oilers have any prospects playing in high school right now? There's your trade. - Copper n Blue
Anyone who says Feaster is a dumbass is correct. That guy has pulled so many boners in his short time as Calgary GM, it's embarassing. Here is, on the cusp of the most important transition in over 15 years of Flames hockey, and already he's half-assing the rebuild. Part of me thinks he has a personal challenge set out for himself to rebuild the team without high draft picks, or tanking or whatever "unethical" manner the Oilers chose to move forward with. Well, he's not going to have time to fail. If Burke's looking for a job opening, I suspect he can submit his resume to Mr.King in about a month. |

only happens at draft. edm will make it's pick for a centreman and then make the attempt to acquire yandle. gagner probably won't be resigned until near that time period too. although giving up a guy like gagner for the sake of putting all your marbles in the newly drafted centreman is insane. |

wait guys. Here's the oilers angle at this, Lucic is a major part of the bruins and their cup run. Whitney is a #7 D man, many oiler fans want to run hemsky our of town for nickels and dimes, Lander'll likely turn into a 2nd line AHL centre. If we put them all together in a package......wait for it.....
EDM'll get Lucic. |

Yeah love the trade Steve did. Always good to trade a potential top 6 forward that can score for a player that might be a bottom 6 with size. Always harder to fill the bottom six roles than to get those good goal scorers. Besides we have no need of a center that is about 2 years from being NHL ready. Bought the same time Belanger and Horcoff's contracts are up, not if we have a guy that is big that we already gave up because we know he is not good enough to even play in OKC.
I at least hope this is part of Tamb's resignation to accept a job with the coyotes because this trade makes no sense. Given a year in OKC and Rieder would have at least been worth a second round pick. He was amazing in the Junior Tournament. 1 more year to show his stuff and could have got something good. Worse, there was no reason to make the trade. It could have waited months if not a year.
Tamb should be doing real GM work and not fiddling with guys we don't even have on our farm team. Not less than a week before the deadline. He is driving this team into the ground.
You can talk about Lucic, Jbo or any other player but truth is, he is not going after any of them. I doubt he is even at the office. I bet Lowe and him are sitting back laughing about how they haven't been fired yet while playing around of golf somewhere south. |

Chillout, Quasimoto. It's prospects for prospects. Neither of them are likely to make the NHL, and if either of the two reach their full potential they'll both be dangerous. |

I have no idea why the Flames would take Smid back.
And that isn't to say anything good or bad about Smid. But if Clalgary is rebuilding then they are only really going to want Prospects, draft picks, or young players already under contract. There is no need to take a pending UFA.
As for the never trading with Edmonton. Part of accepting the rebuild, which the Flames appear to have done, is getting as good a deals as possible. So "rivalries" no longer play into it. If they can get the best deal from Edmonton, then do it.
And it will cost Edmonton their first rounder and possibly a opr young player. And yes more may have to go back with Bouwmeester. You can argue about how bad Bouwmeester's contract it. And while tonight was a bad game for him, he is finally playing much closer to his contract this season. Flames could possibly eat some of the salary too. But it is the trade deadline, and teams will pay to get their player. Call it an overpayment all you want, it happens every year. |

I love these clueless posts.
I also love how it seems that 12% of posters actually comprehend the english language. My grammar isn't great, but I try to at least look like I have basic english comprehension when posting. Either I am too drunk to read, or this is one of the worst threads written. |
