Neither will Gunnarsson then, easy clearing attempt right at the opposition and bam, in the net. - LeafMan

I absolutely don't doubt that Van and Tor have talked recently, but I can guarantee you that it was Gillis making the call, offering Lu for cheaper, and Nonis politely wishing him good luck with that. |

Retarded idea to trade what's going to be one if our top d away to help another position. Gardiner is a type of def player u don't trade away. Not many of his kind in the NHL - ALeafsFan4Ever
They're mostly in the AHL. |

AGREED. This reaks of total desperation from Gillis. Think of it, the Leafs are playing great, their goalie duo is doin well, why the fuk would Nonis call Gillis?
Not bloody likely. |

Any idea on Paul ranger next year? - Yeti1181
Thank you-
As far as I know he is on a 1 year contract. He turned up the most physically fit of all the marlies and is the goto Dman on the team. Not listed on Cap Geek. No info on why he left the NHL last time. And I see him as exactly what the leafs need for their second pair along reilly or gardiner.
Somebody out there knows. But pretty incredible how he is such a well kept secret. |

then add phaneuf to the can't defend list too.
Tough night for Gunnar but he's been pretty solid for a couple of years. IMO, he's a solid 2nd pairing guy when healthy. |

Yeah, I heard they have this new semi-synthetic twine, does a much better job of repelling the opposition shots... |

Yeah think nonis wil try and sign him to a two way contract? Last I heard he just lost his desire and that's why he left. |

Funny guy right here. - Yeti1181
It's not that funny, the guy spent most of the year there. He's struggled to stay in the lineup due to his play in his own end. Meanwhile, Liles and Kostska each had over 17 minutes last night. |

All the trade options don't look too appealing to me. Short of getting Ott or Clarkson (which won't likely happen) were not making many if any moves. There already done. What I would do is try to straighten out the defence. We have a surplus of #5/6 guys to sell for a premium above their actual worth.
D- men
1st pair
Phaneuf
2nd pair
Liles
Gardiner- (at some pointand even first pair)
3rd pair
Gunnarson
Kostka
Holtzer
Frazer
Franson (might be some more potential here)
Farm - with NHL Potential
Reilly
Blacker
Perry
Finn
The one other guy that never gets mentioned is Paul Ranger. He's cleaning up in the Marlies, played beside Gardiner for an extended period and was probably a first pair dman for Tampa in his first stint.
We need to ship out some of the 5/6 guys because the pipeline is too full- a very nice problem to have! - akermack
we have corey perry on defense? im down |

claims he cant defend, boxes out crosby and other elite players like evander kane majority of the night against the boards. Phaneuf is a good player when he uses his body defensively and has his godamn stick on the ground. |

Franson, a 3rd pairing dman? Ya no....he's easily 2nd.
Ranger is signed to an AHL contract only. |
