I think the basic strategy of it is sound.

it sucks to have the life sucked out of you by a sucky defense

Also don't believe Bryz is the issue...granted his ONLY job is to stop pucks...however there are 5 other dudes on the ice before the opposing team gets to him...yea he (Bryz) has let up some "easy" goals, but for the most part he has been pretty good...

However, what do you do with his huge contract / years on it. Let's assume for a second he ends up like he did last year...which he WASN'T good...and starts playing like that again...what do you do? Do you take that chance? Or go after Ryan Miller in the off season...Sabers are about as bad as the Flyers and really see no future in that team. Miller wants out...He is 32, and for a goalie...that is a good age...sign him to a three year deal...bring up Munroe or Heeter who are have a so so year as a back up...

Again I like Bryz...the this year Bryz, not last year...do we take the risk? I understand we can buy him out next year if things don't look good, but risk losing the chance of not going for Miller...just asking!

The solace of a 48 game season is we dont have to watch this much longer and the offseason starts sooner. I dont see major changes coming, but I do see them getting that #1 D man, and like someone mentioned above the other D men will be slotted into the positions that they will succeed most in. Coburn is the perfect example of this. He isn't a 1, wasn't meant to be, but he's a hell of a 2 or 3 guy.

I've accepted our fate and hope we land in the top of the draft to get a good player, from what a lot of you have posted there's some real talent coming up around 1-5. If theres a coaching change Id be ok with that, though I like Lava, but his not adjusting of philosophy to match talent reminds me of a certain football coach who recently left. It makes no sense to me to try and make filet mignon out of pork butt.

Does he still worth Subban?
- soad_live

If the Habs came to me (I am Homer in this scenario) and they said straight up, Couterier for PK Subban, i say DEAL!

A point that JSaq has been making and I agree. You may not cut Bryz loose for his play, but for the contract.

Dear God. You want Cooter for Bishop? That's insanity especially when tending isn't our issue. Cooter was the 8th overall pick in 2011 who played fantastic last year in the playoffs vs malkin...He is in a sophomore slump this year. I would have considered trading him for Weber, but for Bishop? You are massively over valuing Bishop or undervaluing Cooter.
- Hextall271

LOL Couturier is the pick I wanted Ottawa to make in that draft. More wishful thinking then anything else.

Maybe a borderline prospect.. I wouldn't give more than a 2nd pick for a 26 yr old goalie who has never proven himself at this level for long stretches. We got a 2nd for Bobrovsky..and I think Bob is better.
- Hextall271

I could see it taking more than a borderline prospect in addition to the second round pick. They could probably get similar value elsewhere.

Tell me you are joking. With a few exceptions, he's kept the team in it. People can't expect that a goalie can do it all. Sometimes I think we could have Lundqvist here and people would blame him..
- Hextall271

Among goalies, Brz is 40th in Save per Centage, 36th in GAA, 32 in Shootouts(no team mates to blame here) and 4th in salary. Not elite.

I would have too. I bet you dimes to dollars, Homer called the Habs about his availability earlier on. I don't think Bergevin was fielding any offers at all. He's a franchise type dman.

You do realize that this is the product of a horrible d corps don't you?

The way I look at it is that the goalie is the most important cog in the wheel that is team D. He's not the entire wheel as some think. If the team is sound defensively where the forwards and D have the ability and are committed to executing the plan, then the goalie's stats will look great, even if he is not that great. Bryz has done his job, but the team has failed him. I don't say he's is elite, but you could have Lundqvist in net here, and we'd still be losing the same way.

Don't see that happening. I still think we may end up with Yandle unless Homer pulls of a coup.

So the blue line will now look like:

Timonen - Schenn
Gus - Liljia
Gervais - Foster

I don't agree with this. He's certainly cooled off some since his hot start to the season, but average at best is selling him short. As for the money, well, I won't argue that the contract is good. He and his cap hit have not been an impetus for the Flyers this season, though.
- BulliesPhan87

Bryzgalov has been a complete bust imo. He was suppose to be the guy and the Flyers moved two of there younger franchise players to do so. He has been inconsistant and far from being a top tier goalie (which he was paid to do).

We can blame systems, players and the universe but it comes down to stopping pucks and he hasn't done enough imo.

I won't always put it all on the goalie but there are other goalies producing with less talent in front of them.

Remember, we are trying to catch Florida. The Boston game Saturday will be a 7-0 massacre.. book it. I say start Leighton.

That's not the only reason. As someone already said, look at Lehtonen's save percentage in Dallas.

Bryz has been fine IMO, he's not a miracle worker with this awful d. The trade of Richards and Carter is not looking the best right now because of their success in LA and our collapse. Maybe too much put on Giroux too soon. I don't know, but if Homer doesn't fix it fast, i think he should be canned.

So we have Cousins (as long as he doesn't end up in prison) Laughton, as well as, hopefully a top 5 pick which I expect will be a forward. I think we need to start dangling a roster forward + picks and/or the players listed above, should be enough to get us a #1 d guy.
- Hextall271

I wouldn't move Laughton....regardless....the Flyers have enough talent beyond Giroux at center. Honestly I guess it depends on what you get for one of Read, Schenn or Couturier.
Cousins ? Could be a very good NHL guy or flame out in the minors....all the tools are their....but it's what's between the ears, that will hold him back....it's also what's between Laughtons ears, that will elevate him even further.

it's time for some stability and continuity. the roster overhauls need to stop.

i'd like to see a #1 defensemen brought in so everyone can slot in to more appropriate pairings. but that will be difficult to pull off. outside of defensive upgrades, there should only be minor tinkering.

- bradleyc4

Agreed. The Flyers need to be more patient and willing to take their lumps with the younger players.
