Over the past 10 years, which D men in the draft were actually impact D men in the first 3 years in the NHL without AHL seasoning?
- bodiva88

After some research, only a few, IMHO, would be considered...

Phaneuf
Doughty
Myers (though tailed off lately)

Isles re-sign Lubomir Vishnovsky. 2 years, $9.5mm, AAV of $4.75mm on an over 35 deal.

Taken directly from Bill's blog.

"The team is just ill-assembled in general and paper thin on the blueline in particular"

Who is at fault for the team being ill-assembled, and paper thin on the blueline?

Look forward to reading the answers.

Don't look at me. I blame Laviolette for everything. Just ask that PLindbergh31 guy. Anyone who criticizes Laviolette obviously blames him for everything.

Short term deal so I think thats a good signing by the Islanders.

Hmmm, yet the half as long Timonen deal gets shredded. Interesting.

Timonen signed for $6M. Thats a significant increase especially for a team that is up against the cap.

Actually, it's a decrease compared to his cap hit for this year, and it's not subject to the over 35 conditions.

Any deal with a player thats up in age is a risk.

Technically it is a decrease but $6M still nothing to sneeze at.

Edit: Islanders can afford it with the 3rd lowest payroll (cap wise).

No it's not. But it's pretty apparent now that they'd be paying similar money and likely more years if they signed any of the other members of the UFA crop this summer.

Timonen at $6mm for 1 year vs Vishnovksy at $4.75mm for 2 on an over 35 deal with a NMC.

That 2nd year could be an issue

Edit: After buying out Briere, the Flyers will have little issue with Timonen's deal

If the Flyers signed that deal I would agree. The Islanders have plenty of cap space and money. Not an issue for NY.
