Apparently it was Iginla, which in my book makes him the worst kind of fair-weather front-runner fan. And that makes me hope the Penguins implode, get exposed, self-destruct, etc.

Wow, in light of Calgary making roster moves in preparation for moving the players, this make it even more douchbaggery on Iginlas part.

Everybody talks about how little Feaster got from the Pens, and Iginla is (apparently) the reason.

If that's the case. Then that's screwed up. You can't give the GM a list of 4 teams that you'll accept a deal to. Have the GM negotiate with one of those teams. And then turn around and say I'll only accept a deal to the Pens.

This is a serious question as I was drunk for the first decade of the century and am hazy on some things:

When was the last time they were really good for an extended period of time?

I recall at least one very strong start (10-11?) but nothing that lasted.

- MrBuzzcut

Buzzcut! How's the water in your tires?

Last time they were really good? 2009-10 until about Mid-November when they fell so far it cost Stevens his job.

It will feel bad, but in reality you never know if the 7th guy might not turn out better then a higher pick.

I am hoping beyond hope that we get a top 3 pick, but I believe we will lose the lottery and drop as far as possible.

Play the kids.

Play them as much as possible.

Give Harry Z an extended look.

Lets see McGinn for the rest of the season.

This is Claude's first real test as captain, trying to hold a "team" together even though they aren't in the hunt for the playoffs.

No tanking! I want to see 60 minutes efforts from everyone on the ice. We haven't really seen it this year, except for maybe 1 or 2 games.

Go Flyers!!!

SV% isn't the true indicator with the overwhelming amount of breakaways, odd man rushes, and unchecked players in prime scoring areas that this team give up on a game by game basis.
- MJL

This cannot be stressed enough. When you're seeing high-quality shots from the best shooting areas of the ice and/or on odd-man rushes, the Save Percentage is going to dip. It's a funnel system:

Chances > Shots > Shots on Goal > Saves Made > Shots Result in Opposing Goal

Chances, Shots, Shots on Goal are all mitigated by the five men in front of the goalie. The teams playing better TEAM DEFENSE are the ones that don't give up many good scoring chances from the better areas of the ice.

Luckily we can only drop one spot. So say we end up 3rd which seems likely. We have a 58% chance of staying in the top 3, a 14% to move up to 1 and a 42% chance we drop to 4. I don't think anyone is gonna beat the Panthers to last place they are just too far ahead at this point.

I don't think any team can drop more than 1 place. It's just the lottery winner can jump up many places.

Maybe I'm overstating things, but this type of product is unacceptable for the resources this franchise has. How can you spend the most money in the NHL and be at the bottom? That is poor management, and terrible allocation of resources.
- PLindbergh31

The Rangers did worse prior to the institution of the cap, I'm sure you let your father know.

Flyers won't finish below Florida and Colorado (I think).

They likely will be in the bottom 5 though, especially with the injuries.

With the draft lottery I hope for the best but expect the worst.

If the flavour of the day is buying out Bryz after this season...

I prefer to keep him for 2013-14. He played great in a much better defensive system in Phoenix, under Dave Tippett. Look at how Mike Smith has done since winning the starting gig there after Bryz left.

Fire Lavy after the season, hire a coach that has a better approach for what we have on our roster, especially our defense. I think Tippett is also a FA this off-season, bring him in? Install his system with offensive talent he only dreamed of in Phoenix, Bryz plays better, win-win?

Homer needs to adjust the roster, clean out the trash and have a solid draft. I am in support of trading assets for a mobile, offensive defenseman. I will leave it to Homer (or if he gets canned, the next GM) to assess what assets are leaving for this to happen.

It makes it a bit easier to not root for him.

The whole thing is a conundrum, because I love Iginla and would like to see him get a cup, but not with the Pens.

Time for my old ESPN standard, "Skippy Stats." This is the Flyers' record when scoring 2 or less goals compared to scoring 3 or more.

2 or less goals scored:
4-15-2 (1 SO loss, 1 OT loss - 1 SO win)

3 or more goals scored:
9-2-1 (1 SO loss - no SO wins)

The fact that the team has scored 3 or more goals just 12 times out of 33 games is rather lackluster. That's not very much goal support at all.

I think Iginla said 4 teams, then when it came to the last moment told Feaster he preferred to be a Pen. Feaster accommodated him because he is Iginla.

The deals offered were not significantly different (at least to me, I guess if you follow the prospects closely maybe there is a bigger difference).

And a first pick and two prospects is in reality pretty fair for a 35 yr old rental even if it is Iginla.
