Actually, it comes down to wins - bottom line!! A goalie can have an average defense in front of him with an average save % but if he has a ton of wins, who cares about the save %.

If you're a great goaltender, you'll win a ton of games yourself!!

- newmy

you'd have to be the best goalie in the game to lead your last place team to an assload of wins.

When measuring goalies, GAA and wins don't matter. If you let in 5 goals in a game and lose but your SV% was .950, it's not the goalies fault in any way.

There really is no point discussing this with you as you have already decided to hate everything Oilers. Not too sure if it's jealousy or you blame Katz pharmaceuticals for your pill addiction.
But what the other guy was sayin is if the defense improves then Dubnyk will also due to less quality scoring chances. He may not be the guy, and has to show a little more consistency, but his numbers suggest he could be a good starter.

- abware

Katz, I could care less about the guy, I don't shop at his drug outlets!!

As for Dubynk, if you think he's a #1 goalie, fine that's your opinion, i'm here to tell you he hasn't proven nothing yet, just like the entire team.

Maybe they will in the future but until they acquire big wingers, all that skill alone isn't going to win you a championship.

I don't know but I think if you ask any coach or GM which he deems more important - wins, GAA or save %, I think they'll tell you wins is what matters.

If you win 6-5, 8-7 or 10-9, yours GAA & save % is going to suck but you still put up the W - it's all that matters

So what you're telling me is you'd rather have Dubnyk over Quick, Miller, Lundquist, Rask, Schneider, Luongo etc, etc, etc???

Well you'd certainly be in the minority!!

Save % is all I look at. If he has a high save % he is doing his part. The other stats mean little.

If a goalie has a save % at .940 and a losing record, I would still consider him a better goalie than one with a winning record and a .887 save %

Dubnyuk has proven he can handle a starting role and play more games.

Schneider hasn't and flopped when the opportunity to be a starter was given to him.

Untill he shows he can play long stretches at a high level as Dubnyuk has done I wouldn't say he is better. Higher end, more potential yes, but has not done it yet.

Dubnyuk should be given more credit, and even Bernier was his backup during the lockout.

Bernier started the Spengler cup ahead of dubnyuk which is a short tourney. Dubnyuk started the gold medal game

blues, carolina, and bruins inquiring about whitney...

analysts suggest bulin to be traded for a 2nd round pick or goaltending prospect...four teams in playoff hunt and amongst the highest goals against...wpg, car, nyi, and tor maybe interested.

Yes, he beat out Bernier for the Job. Yet Dunyuk get's little credit and schnieder and Bernier are considered legit.

I'm just trying to show that these two are not that much better, yet get tons of hype and mentioned with the elite goalies in the game. They are not elite...yet.

Hasn't noon eastern past where the hell is dekeyser going so we can put this to bed. Time to trade some waste. Bye jones, Whitney, eager, Belanger, and oh I sure hope we say good riddance to nick Schultz. Not all of them right away but hopefully before next season. And please if there is a chance of getting the old cry baby smyth out of town please do it ( so slow brings nothing to the team at all) .

If Jones doesn't get traded, I'm okay with him coming to camp healthy, confident and re-energized.

Regain whatever form he had last year - if the Oilers have that going on there 4th line. No problems here.

Clouts, so the Oilers are going to be great in a few years???

Really, Really...well I guess that's your opinion but until they get a defense & goaltending to back it up, until their young forwards decide to play with consistency & until you insert some big wingers with skill into your lineup, you're not winning anything.

Teams don't care about your top 6, they know playing physical greatly diminishes their skill & it's been proven several times this season.

And you sure talk about Klefbom quite abit, a guy that's never played in the NHL - wow you make him sound like he's automatic to be a top pairing d-man.

Well I guess you're as big a dreamer as the rest of the Oil fans!!

- newmy

Playing physical against kids is affective? No (frank)ing poop idiot, you so smart... When the kids aren't kids it won't be that easy
