If they had turned into a perennial contender then you could make an argument to defend but they're still terrible. Boston gave up their guy and got better and younger. And won a Cup. - Pairo11
Problem in TO was they had traded so many top picks (rds 1-3) over the years that the cupboards were so bare, any GM was (frank)ed from the beginning. Was the Kessel trade a bad one? Probably but he had to do something to get top line talent there. He did a very nice job of amassing prospects that the future doesn't look so doom and gloom anymore. He just wore out his welcome with ownership like he does everywhere he goes.

I think Leino had a valid reason to call out the linesman like that. They clearly blew the call. The puck went out of the zone and was carried back in by a Florida player, Ville took it away and the play was blown dead offsides. Brutal work by the linesman there and Leino gets a penalty for calling him out and then gets benched for the rest of the night. Just another bizarre chapter to the worst season in Sabres history. It least it will be over soon. I can't stand watching, yet I cant stop watching. - The_Inkwell
seems like argueing balls and strikes just cant do that. The whistle is blown thats the call dont argue |

Would the media and fans allow for a rebuild? I dont think they would let that happen so you have to trade your picks to try to win right now and time in and time again it shows thats not how to do it. Tank and draft top 3 like everyone else |

Had the balls to make the trades in 99 to draft both Sedins.
Won a cup in Anaheim.
Built the currant team in Toronto.
He is probably one of the top 5 GM's in the game. - dadeadhead
I agree to disagree. I don't think much of him. |

86-87 was the worst year IMO. They ended up with the worst record in the NHL and drafted 1st overall. This team is bad and might not draft in the top 5. |

If those 2 picks are in the 20-25 range they dont get Tyler they dont get dougie then deal could be one sided toronto - hubie
Right. But since they suck so bad they were great picks.
Chiarelli was STILL pinching himself until yesterday when Iginla stuck it in him and then snapped it off !!

The only thing he did in Anaheim was hire Caryle and bring in Neidimier. He inherited most of the roster when they won.
Je drafted the Sedins and they have yet to win a cup and Toronto is hovering around a 7th seed? Not exactly dynamite there - Stripes77
Exactly. Burke is nothing at all special when it comes to GM's.
He is Matt Ellis of GM's. But it's just my opinion. |

Whether it was Iginla being a d*ckhead or Feaster being a buffoon stuff like that and offer sheeting O'Reilly won't be helping Feasters cause/image moving forward. |

Agreed but what I'm saying is the previous GM's in TO had moved so many top picks that organizationally they had zero talent. He made a move to get a top line player.
Did it work out for the best? Probably not but say they trade Kessel for a nice return to add to the current young talent they've amassed. It then becomes a more even trade. |

I don't know how Feaster still has a job. He should have been fired 4 years ago. |

Id have to look at the whole body of work. Not knowing what all was there like Im sure Dion was a boat load and several others left the them dry. Looks like Kadri could be coming into his own. |

Feaster is a terrible GM.
that said, I can't blame him for the Iginla situation. IMO Iginla gave him a list of 4 teams and then said I'll only take a trade to Pitts. |

Think Homer yesterday said Darcy had a full day meeting with Pegula. That tells me Darcy is gettin offers on the big 3 IMO. I'm honestly confident Darcy will get a solid return if he trades any of them, just a matter of pulling the trigger which we all know is his weakness. - buffalokb
He did say that which also makes beleive some moves are done. Id think the meeting is seeing what he plans on doing and overseeing what hes trying to do. |

His fault lies in not aggressively selling a trade to Iginla 3-4 years prior. |

Dion Phaneuf traded from Calgary Flames with Fredrik Sjostrom and Keith Aulie to Toronto Maple Leafs for Jamal Mayers, Niklas Hagman, Matthew Stajan and Ian White |

Iginla has to want to leave. You can't sell a guy on a trade if he has no desire to want to leave.
That said, Calgary is a horrible run organization. |
