Brian Burke always said he wanted deadline day to be one of the quietest days for him because of the cost of doing business.
- Gunner Staal

IMO it's a lose-lose for GM's (unless they win it all which rarely happens).

In most cases you get such a bad return on investment. Although Holmgren 'stole' Upshall, Hartnell, a pick and a player for Forsberg a few years back. That was a deal !

You could maybe blame him for 1 of the goals last night

Traded for Pronger which is why they won the cup.
- dadeadhead

One move doesnt exactly make him a great GM.
Ken Holland is a great GM
Stan Bowman is a great GM
Ray Shero is a good GM (He lucked into Crosby) But he makes moves to make the team better

Myers is in the Vanek catergory we hunt him down more due to the dollars we put into him. In the long run the deal will be worth it
- hubie

I am not able to agree, Vanek was the best player in the league early on, Myers has been a mess for the past 1.5 yrs. He looks totally lost.

My source inside the room said Pomminville tried to rip his team after the loss but clammed up and had to be saved by Miller who then went all Hypocrite on Kaleta for being a whiner.....(feel free to and on to the story).....
- twistedwrister9

...And then Tyler Myers went to punch Kevin Porter for giving the puck away, but tripped over his feet (or did he trip over Nathan Gerbe? Hard to tell. Both are useless and in the way). Any-hoo, while this fiasco was happening, Christian Ehrhoff tried throwing his empty water bottle into the trash can but instead hit Thomas Vanek in the face, breaking his nose. Kaleta laughed, calling Vanek brittle. Vanek called Kaleta a southtowns drunk and told him that the Metro bus driving by the arena was trying to score on his "brother" Miller, so Kaleta jumped in front of it, breaking his thumb...

Had the balls to make the trades in 99 to draft both Sedins.

Won a cup in Anaheim.

Built the currant team in Toronto.

He is probably one of the top 5 GM's in the game.

- dadeadhead

My only issue with Burke is the Kessel trade. There could be more but that one's pretty fresh in everyones mind I suppose.

And one of the better players in the league when he received the contract.

Myers can't get out of his own way. I think most of us would be happy if he could just play solid f@$king defense.

Meanwhile Stafford found out he was really allergic to the Coat and broke out in hives thus ending his run at playing more than 1 game in a row. Hodgson was on the phone with his old man asking for a trade back to Vancouver, Otter and Weber bumped into each other and started fighting like the brothers they are. Sitting back and taking it all in was Enroth who couldnt figure out where the coffee pot was

Vanek is paid like a top 10 NHL scorer. Since he singed that deal I don't think he's been in the top 15 in scoring. That's just as big of an issue as paying someone to be a number 1 defenseman and him playing like a 4/5 guy. Neither has lived up to their hype and deals from their first couple years

Traded for Pronger, Moen, Parros, Marchant, May, Kunitz, O'Donnell, and Beauchemin.

Signed Selanne and Niedermayer.

Bowman took over for Tallon who did all of the work to put that team together.

Chiarelli
Shero
Holland
Holmgren
Burke
Lou

Best Gm's in the game and all can be argued into the top 5.

His attitude is a double edged sword for me. I like that he's a ballsy GM and takes no bullpoop but then again I bet he's such a d*$# to deal with if you're another GM or even an agent to work a contract out.

Which is why he doesn't last long anywhere he goes.

Kind of like Hitchcock and Keenan coaching.

If they had turned into a perennial contender then you could make an argument to defend but they're still terrible. Boston gave up their guy and got better and younger. And won a Cup.

His trade of Beauchemin back to Anaheim for Lupul and Gardiner is also a pretty good fleecing.

I think Leino had a valid reason to call out the linesman like that. They clearly blew the call. The puck went out of the zone and was carried back in by a Florida player, Ville took it away and the play was blown dead offsides. Brutal work by the linesman there and Leino gets a penalty for calling him out and then gets benched for the rest of the night. Just another bizarre chapter to the worst season in Sabres history. It least it will be over soon. I can't stand watching, yet I cant stop watching.
