lol Why are you mad? He is right. How many 1st overall picks do the Oilers need before they even get in as an 8th seed? Pathetic.

and Leafs fans still beak, what's it been, half a century since you've made a cup finals???

And you know Toews was a 3rd overall pick...what round was that no name picked? Oh.
- Allstarzz

Haha....I know, he's obviously no Toews...just trying to put things in perspective, everyone is writing these kids off already....just like Jankowski.

Don't you think the Flames should have picked someone who would have helped sooner than Jan?

LOL do the Oilers need another 1st overall pick this year to maybe get into 12th spot in the west? How many do you need? What a joke. They aren't even close to making the playoffs.

which is why you don't trade everyone for picks. You proved my point. Calgary needs to keep guys like giordano, cammy. You need young guys to be led by example and into a winning environment. Be in denial if u want but the oilers accept losing
- Paul99

to this day, that pick still blows my mind.

that guy that he wanted in the iginla deal, what was his name again, you know, that goalie that was picked 3 spots after calgary picked.

of all the boneheaded moves feaster has made, that pick was probably the worst (only cuz the ROR debacle never actually went through)

Oilers fans laugh at the Kessel trade...yet even without a single first overall pick these past long years...we are in a playoff spot while having the 2nd youngest team. Oh and Kadri is leading the Leafs into the playoffs. How's Hall doing? Maybe they should have picked Seguin. Idiot gm.

No one is comparing our players to Crosby and Malkin you handitard..... all that anyone is saying is that were on a similar path as them, with no GENERATIONAL talents like Crosby and Malkin, but somehow should be doing better now than they did in the same time Frame....

Pitsburgh consecutive first round picks in their rebuild and not making the playoffs during that stretch, 5th, 1st, 2nd, 1st, 2nd then they made the playoffs, like are you really that stupid?? i'm guessing yea

You know....Hanowski had almost as many points last year as Toews did in his last year.....in the same conference......just sayin
- The-O-G

Kyle Beach scored 50 Goals in the WHL. Junior level accomplishements are great, but it is what they do in the NHL. On March 28th, 2013, the 2 college kids and a low 1st rounder for Jerome Iginla seems like a terribly lopsided deal in favor of the Pens. I hope the future proves that to be incorrect and Hanowski, the other kid, and whomever they draft at #30 overall help bring the Flames back to glory, but my comments are based on the here and now in which quite a few fans did the double take this morning and had no idea who Hanowski is.

No idea...i'm not a scout, and have never seen him play. The Flames need to look long term...don't care if that is 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 years down the road.

I don't think it is very likely that Chiarelli will be looking to deal with Feaster any time soon, let alone at this deadline, after Feaster clearly played him to get a better offer from Pitt. If it is to be believed that Iginla wanted to go to Pitt over Boston all along - and why wouldn't he - then Feaster is the one who screwed over the Bruins, not Iginla. I would imagine there is quite a bit of anger that will impede any dealings.

Yoou think he'll sign with the Flames? He's a UFA in August. Why wouldnt he just wait til then and see what all the offers are?

Yeah but if you looked at that team, anyone could have predicted cups in the future. You look at the small forwards on the Oilers, does it look like they will be contenders with them? Nope. That's why it's funny when Oilers fans make fun of Calgary because they should tank and get all these picks. Look at Columbus? Look at NYI? Look at Florida? All pathetic teams like Edmonton. The only team who have done a proper rebuild is Ottawa and that pains me to say it.

i agree, that's probably been the only real disappointment during this rebuild. either those supporting pieces arent' available (which i doubt) or tambellenni and lowe just aren't doing a good enough job at identifying them.
- sensarmy_11

I think it's the latter.

Imagine if instead of bringing back the aging and cheaply had Smyth they brought in Prospal. Instead of Belanger they had nabbed Goc. Instead of Eager they had gotten Carcillo. Instead of taking a waiver on Cam Barker they took a waiver on Benoit Pouliot. Instead of trading Cogliano to Anaheim for a 2nd, they had added to him and traded for Versteeg (trade price 2nd and a 3rd). Similar calibre moves for similar costs at similar times. Things would be different for sure.

Iggy held the cards in this deal....Feasters hands were tied. Regardless the Flames needed to get something for him, and judging by how happy iggy is to head to Pitt, it was them or bust.

Feaster got the max he could get for 16 more games of Iginla. He would have walked as a FA

I still don't understand why everyone thinks the Oilers should be further along... IT'S ONLY BEEN 2.5 YEARS SINCE THEY BLEW THE TEAM UP...... It took Pitsburgh 6 YEARS to make the playoffs with Crosby and Malkin.... like ffs
- SpoiledByOil

What? You have no idea what you are talking about. The most they missed in a row was 4 years, 3 in a row before the lockout.

Since the lockout the Penguins missed the playoffs once, the first season after the lockout (05-06). Since then they made the playoffs every year and after the "Crosby draft" it took them only 3 years to make the Finals (07-08) and 4 years to win the Cup (08-09).

The Oilers haven't made the playoffs since their miraculous Finals run in 05-06 as the 8th seed and have picked in the top 10 in every draft except for 08 (including 1st overall three years in a row). Also arguably their 08 draft when they didn't pick in the top ten still netted them a really good undersized winger in Eberle. The Oilers didn't just "start" rebuilding.

When was the last time? A while ago. Teams on the right track with our STUD Kadri. He is leading our team to the playoffs, while your overrated kids can't. Enough said. And no Leafs fans are the most loyal. In the past 40+ years, there's many reasons not to follow this team. But we do because we love our Leafs no matter what. Unlike Edmonton fans.
