Yeah whats with these (frank)ing guys? It is what it (frank)ing is, just say it & get on doing it. This Kipper fiasco has pretty assured us he wont be playing here nxt year. He's either elsewhere or retired. With JBO probably being traded & I wouldnt doubt Cammi will be moved too, we will have jettisoned 25.6 mill off our cap. Add Babchuks 2.5 gone & that is 28 mill in cap space. We are going to be lucky to be a cap floor team next year. If I were GM, here's what I'd do right now:
1/Sell Stajan to New Jersey, eat 1.4 mill of salary & cap so that he is only 2.1 mill cap hit but only 1.1 mill in actual $$$ for a prospect & a 2nd rounder. If New Jersey dont want him, I'm sure someone will at that price.
2/ Sell Cammi to the Bruins & eat 2.0 mill of his salary & cap hit for this & remainder of next year for that Koko & Bruins 1st rounder. Bruins need the scoring.
3/I would try to entice Philly with JBO, eat another 2.0 mill this years & next year salary & cap space + the 2nd rounder we acquired from Stajan+ Koko we acquired from Bruins for Couturier & their 1st. If that didnt work then back to plan B & sell JBO to the highest bidder of Detroit, St louis or Ottawa & be sure a 1st rounder & a top prospect is coming back. JBO we can almost not have to eat any salary, unless St louis give us a 2013 1st & a 2014 1st & a top prospect (Rattie?) if we eat 2.0 of salary & cap space because they have some contracts to renew coming up with players they want to keep.
Why eat 3-5 million in dead salary next year? Well how is that much different than the 4.5 mill in salary we have healthy scratched with Sarich & Babchuk for most of this year? It helps us get way more value back & next year is going to be a long tough year. There will be no sniffing at UFA's or buying at the trade deadline. We will be as close to a cap floor team as we have ever been since the D Sutter era & the birth of Salary Cap in the nHL.
Then I would go all in at the draft & assuming we are probably going to have a top 5 pick, try to get a 2nd top 5 pick. I would use 2 of of the later 1st rounders we acquired & dangle one of our few decent prospects like Reinhart, Wotherspoon maybe even Broissoit in a package for a top 5 pick. Overpay if you have to, but thats where we start to rebuild around a few future franchise players & hope that Sven & Gaudreau also become important core players in the future.
But thats just me. WTF do I know? |

I could see Philly wanting Jbo, but I dont think they are interested in moving either Couturier or their top 5 pick this year.
I think Cammi will be a tough sell. Attitide issues and his contract. I dont see him fitting in Boston.

Well, he scores goals & thats is what Boston needs, especially if they come in 2nd on some of the other pieces being auctioned. We carry a few mill of his cap & all of a sudden, you may have a piece worth adding for the playoffs. I dont think he would all that bad of a fit & I'm sure Mr Lucic will keep any attitude in check. Would be funny to see him come back & burn the Canadians from a Bruin perspective.
Agree, Couturier will be hard to extract from Philly, but I wouldnt rule it out, but yeah cant see prying their 1st rounder out either, maybe at the draft if we overpay, which is something I would do. |

Kenny Agostino had 1g 1a in upset of Minnesota just now. Took puck in corner threw it in front for assist 7 sec into ot. So Iggy may be gone but so far that is good news for Flames. |

Colin- I like you blogs, and more so, the fact that you don't go on disappearing acts. However, where is the game day blog? I realize Iggy is gone and they are just playing out the stretch, but don't go Vetter on us.
Every blog doesn't have to be an Esplin essay, but a few paragraphs per game is appreciated.
Thanks |

Chicago doesn't have a goaltending problem if they just keep playing Emery. I really don't see a market for Kipper - Lanny9
IT is quite funny that you now think you don't see a market, after spending about 12 to 14 posts this week disparaging his name and spewing vitriol.
So which is it? Negative or negative? |

Prob GlenX. Gio and Kip. doubt....unless it works. And, of course, Kip feels like it.
I am fine with all 3 staying. Trade JBo, and trade Kip in the offseason if he still wants to play. Keep GlenX. At all costs. |

I may be crazy but how about Jbo to Columbus for 2 of their first rounders. |

Columbus is deep on D. They would never do that. They need Offense. |
