Boston had a deal on the table and the trade was done...However, Iginla wasn't having it. It was his decision and he chose to play for the team that's going to give him the best opportunity to get his name engraved into Lord Stanley. Clearly, he made the right choice.
- Killian

Right. Feaster should be taking all the blame here. Maybe he thought he had a deal with Boston at noon but we know that by late afternoon Iginla had chosen Pittsburgh. If he's not on the phone with Boston at that point telling them it's off then he's no longer dealing in good faith.

In the end this is exactly what happened, unfortunately he led multiple teams to believe he was willing to be traded to at least 3 clubs, including the Flames management by the sounds of it.

The problem isn't with him wanting to go to Pittsburgh, I don't think anyone can fault him for that, they are clearly front runners. He should have never given the impression he had waived his NMC to a short list of teams if it was only ever one.

this sounds suspiciously like a Hawks fan who's trying to avoid the Pens because he knows that the Hawks have the same type of speed as the Habs which is something the bs have a hard time with
- Habitants98

i would prefer a hawks habs, but bruins style of play is tough and i can see them wearing down any team in a series, but i dont really see the pens even making it past 2nd round, this is just my opinion, but id love to see hawks pens game, just to see a shootout, but i still pick the hawks to beat the pens, because of the hawks style of play, and the hawks dont have outstanding goalies but the team D the hawks play is enough to win

A day or two ago he probably was open to any of those teams, depending on circumstances. Maybe he wasn't assuming that all the teams on his list wanted him. If Pittsburgh had bowed out after they got Morrow I'm sure he would have been happy to go to Boston.

To be quite honest this whole situation reminds me of the Ray Bourque to the Aves situation. There were alot of rumors of where Bourque was going to land.
- nbartley9

Bourque asked to be traded to a contending team in the East. Sinden made a deal with Colorado without Bourque knowing.

Sure there are any number of circumstances that could have led to the decision and it's not fair to judge his character based on this one instance. For one reason or another communication should have been a (frank) of a lot better between all parties involved, but wasn't and the Flames and B's got teabagged in the process.

I just mean all the similarities with the Bourque move then and the Iginla move now.

Probably didn't want Ryder back and in the latter 2 made more than competitive and in the big instance, a markedly better offer. This isn't on PC ... he's busting ass. I have no doubt he'll get something done, but I'd rather he not overpay just because he keeps getting effed.

sorry, meant no disrespect. i just live in bruin territory and being a sabres fan and their often lackluster performance my experience with boston and its fans hasn't been always pleasant.

obviously the bruins are an incredibly talented team, but the nhl isn't a best friends club its a business, and business is ruthless.

also, lets try to keep our insults team oriented maybe?

I think it is hilarious that afternoon drive radio shows in Boston are blaming Chiarelli for this.

Exactly, IMO Boston just needs another forward that can score and they're just as scary.

I don't know about "just as" ... but at least a clear 2nd favourite if they aren't already.

Pittsburgh has more names but, Boston could compete if they had a legit scorer. Honestly I'll be shocked if it happens. Most likely Whitney is coming to Boston and PC is done after that.

I wouldn't blame Chiarelli, but there were some things that happened that should have thrown up a red flag, like the fact that Calgary wouldn't let him talk to Iginla, and the lack of communication between noon and Feaster's press conference.

I think this was the Flames sticking it to the Bruins and their owner.

Well played Calgary, well played.

- Scooby_Doo

Well, the Bruins were once the beneficiary of the same situation, when Kaberle decided he wanted to go to no other team but the Bruins. He was even more public about it too!
