AGREED. Stastny isn't a difference maker. He just comes with unrealistic expectations, an over paid salary, he's injury prone & he won't come cheap in a trade. So as a Leaf GM, Nonis should say no thank u. - GCHonda
If he wouldnt come cheap then I wouldnt want him either. Most of my argument centers around the fact that COL has too much money tied up in at center and may be willing to move him for a lower return. |

So what do we do when Bozak wants 4M+ at the end of this season? pay him? - Holy_Makinaw99
Maybe. Depends who else is out there, and the going rate.
What I would rather see is Kadri on the 1st line, Grabs in his usual spot and either Bozak, Colbourne, FA or another player within the system earn the 3rd line job.
This, of course, assuming Toronto doesn't get a bonafide 1st line C, which is not probable. |

We aren't, and shouldn't be, looking for better than Bozak. Kadri should be taking his spot next year anyways.
We also would have to give up assets to get him. We would also be carrying that contract into next year when the cap drops.
We need a true number center or bust. - systemtool

Sanity. Finally. Thank you. - systemtool
I love the Leaf prospects, McKegg, Ross, Biggs, Finn, Percy, Reilly etc, I wouldn't trade any of the A list prospects for Stastny. Not even Blacker or Colborne.
Stastny stay away, we don't need u. |

Great. So Colorados problem becomes our problem when we go into next season with too much money tied up at center with Stastny and Grabs swapping 2nd/3rd line duties making a combined 12 million or so? With the cap dropping, that should work out just great.
Then we also set horrible examples for Kadri as to what he can expect to get paid when two players who have less talent than him are making around 6 million each.
Just brutal. Lets not do this. |

Exactly. So lets develop our own, Kadri is showing potential to possibly be that one day. Let's not pretend plan B (stastny) is going to compensate. |

Supposedly that Dekeyser kid is going to choose where to sign today, what kinda poop would it be if he picked the Pens. |

Hope he does. He seems over rated.
My preference would be the Oilers, so they could add him to their future juggernaut plans. |

Nobody trades a true number one centre - faceto27
Agreed. Unless you have a team that has two #1 centers but that RARELY ever happens. Like when Quebec in 1994 had Sakic so they could afford to have dealt Sundin to TO. Were talking fricken 19 years ago so good luck waiting for something like that to occur. The only decent center who could be possibly be available to 29 other teams due to the Caps already having Backstrom is Ribero. But can he play an all around game like Bozak? Are the Caps willing to trade him? Will his price be too high? |

Not if it meant over paying for him like the Rangers did a few seasons ago with Gilroy. Or promising him a job.
He probably wants a job now, not the AHL we're willing to offer. |

That is why there always this hoopla over these NCAA prospects.... They are free. No draft pick or giving up players.

Yup. At least it used to be. Most of these guys dont even pan out. Bozak makes less now than he did when he first got here.
With the cap going down, and the fact we actually have depth in our organization at the position, no chance im handing out 2 million to a nobody. Especially when we have guys like Franson to resign. |
