My thoughts?

Luongo is 35 with a decade or so left on his contract. Is not perfoming significantly better, if at all, than the two guys we have now. The two guys we have now are in their mid 20's or so, make less than Luongo combined, and deserve a shot to prove themselves.

Toronto hasn't made the playoffs in close to a decade. Lets not start rolling the dice to win now. We've made progress, let's see how far it can take us before we feel the only choice left is taking on an aging goalie with one of the worst contracts in the league.

Then on top of that, we trade assets that weaken our team?

- systemtool

Luongo is not 35. I'm not disagreeing with this, I don't think the Leafs NEED Luongo, but I do think they feel they need to upgrade goaltending and add a veteran to this group, whether that is Luongo or not remains to be seen.

That being said, I still don't believe Scrivens or Reimer will ever be championship goaltenders, I just don't see it. Eventually those guys will have to be upgraded, but the question is...is Luongo the answer? Not too sure.

Sorry. 34.

Well, I guess that changes everything now, doesn't it? (frank) he hasn't even hit his prime yet. What was I thinking.

Kessel is and hopefully will remain a Leaf a very long time.

- faceto27

He needs to be re-signed. One he re-signs, I'm going to need everyone's help on here, trying to decide on who's Leaf jersey I shoild get. I mean KESSEL is sooooo
electric, Phil the Thrill. LUPUL , I LOVE heart & sould guys like this. You can throw him in the same category of Roberts, Clark & Gilmour as far as guys who play with so much heart. PHANEUF has really become the player we envisioned when we got him from Calgary. He had arough couple of first seasons as a Leaf but wow has he be great this season, plus he is the captain. Those are my 3 canidates.

One of the two goes the other way. Likely scrivener cause he has the lower cap hit
- faceto27

I agree that one of the goalies would have to go....I was on the Reimer bandwagon at the start of the season, didn't like what I saw from Scrivens. However as the year has gone on, i'm pretty much split on who I like more. Both guys have looked good, both guys have looked shakey at times. Scrivens lately has looked better than Reimer, imo, but the sample sizes are so small it's hard to judge.

That was my point. Stastny doesn't improve this team.

Bad contract, injuries and producing less than Bozak, Grabs and Kadri.

I think if you stuck Stastny between Kessel and JVR, you would see his pts total sky rocket. Guy just needs a change of scenary. His contract is high, but he is a UFA at the end of next season. If he turns out to be a mistake, it would be a short lived mistake.

Pretty hard to get a top defender at this point of the season. What are they going to do in goal? MAF is clearly going to be the starter in the playoffs, and Vokoun is a decent back-up. Not sure what they're supposed to do in net differently. If any contending team had a chance to land Iggy for what Pittsburgh gave up for him, they'd do in a second, especially considering he's not a big cap hit and is an upcoming UFA.

I do agree that the Pens do need help defensively, however lately they've been playing a lot better and they did add guys that are defensively responsible in Morrow and Murray.

lol no he's not. Simmons is such a tool. Kessel had spurts last year where he was clearly playing the best of his career, even though he was flying last night for sure.

GN Shero has said they still have cap room so I can see them adding some D. I think they are set in goal & up front.

With MAF's injury issues I'd think they might have some concerns heading into the playoffs...
