Limited waiver pick-ups.

Like, seriously limited. It kind of sucks.

- Leeman4Gilmour

Wanna laugh? In my pool, they dropped lupul when he was on IR. Picked him up, left him on IR. Now hes tearing it up and i picked up kadri when he was doing good before anyone else did and picked up voynov. Picked up fasth when he was doing good. And leddy picked up. This is my team right now:

Kopitar
Thorton
Lupul
JVR
Kadri
Luu
Fasth
Niemi
Keith
Seabrook
Leddy
Voynov
Jagr
Toews
Kessel
Henrick Sedin
St Louis
Semin
Zetterberg
Datsuk
Selanne

Keep in mind, theres only 10 teams, and i made one BIG trade to get toews and kessel
Gave quantity for quality on that one

my three year argument with lou, is equally, if not less ridiculous than your endorsement of lou based on the pure speculative idea that in so many years, his contract won't matter because the escalating cap will be irrelevant.

that is nothing short of pure guess work, and baseless. i'm sure the lightning felt the exact same way when they signed lecavaliers contract.

Drop him Who do you have that you can pick up?
- Mapleleafs_91

He will reserve him and end up with a guy like Komarov or something.

I doubt there is any columns or points for HITS

Who did you replace him with

dude, it's not speculation. He's (frank)ing said it in interviews. Ron MacLean did a feature with him a couple years ago at his ranch in Arizona and he said exactly that. He likes not having to deal with the media pressure on and off the ice every day. Away from the rink he can just leave it behind and be a normal guy. I'm not gonna go hunt for it to prove my point, but you can probably find it.

Lots of guys feel this way. Most? no probably not. but league wide? more than you would think.

How many daily newspapers in Ottawa & Calgary.... how many networks actually have a location.. how many radio stations...?

- DoctorNHL

i get it man, toronto is a bigger city. things are based out of there.. wierd, hey?

new york is also a big city.. people (like richards, gaborik, and nash).. want to go play there.. and they love to play there.

we want to do a study on the level of scrutiny players receive there as opposed to toronto? of course it's different.. but is it heightened to the point where players are avoiding it?

it's all speculation.

yeah? cool.. i would like to see it.

honestly.. never seen that. i mean.. that's a very generic statement. he could be saying that about 2/3rds of the league. but i'm open to it.

there's bound to be someone out there who feels that way.

my entire angle has been that i'm not willing to commit to the idea that toronto hasn't had a big name free agent sign in toronto in almost a decade because of the media/fan base. there's alot more factors at work there.. imo.

I think it's more to do with us sucking for so long. If we were annual cup contenders people would come here because it comes down to winning ultimately.

nice..I was in a roto pool for about 10 plus years...just west teams...then we started another 1...just East teams...but eventually I just got sick of stupid trades that made zero sense and when it comes down to MONEY things can get pretty serious..13 guys trying to ok trades etc...so 3, 4 or 5 years ago ( life can be a blur )..I quit all of them and I said I would just concentrate on the Leafs and watch every game. So I sit down the 1st year and I think they started 0-11 and here I am now!!!!

oh absolutely. I wasn't disputing that... just saying it's also a factor. You seemed to be saying it wasn't a factor. It'a one that is emphasized by losing and reduced dramatically by winning.

Winning in a big market is awesome - who wouldn't want to do that? but losing sucks ass. Much moreso than a soft market.

losing in Florida you don't get booed and you don't get headlines on the front page of 3 papers asking why you suck.

Lupul folks, BEAST. Carlyle is smart, when the leafs are down or need that extra goal, he puts the lupul bozak kessel line together just to get it

i think it's a little column a, little column b.. at the end of the day. probably c,d,e,f to.

there's alot of variables a hockey player considers before he signs a contract.. and media fan pressure may be a factor, but it's low on the list from what i've seen. of course.. there's always going to be that one person who just won't go somewhere because of it. but most players have familys, have their own goals, ambitions.. look for best scenarios that benefit their careers.. money obviously.

there's just alot of variables.

it took up way too much time too, reserving guys who are injured, picking up a piece of poop to replace him....trades...waivers...everytime you make a move you have to pay bucks...I don't miss it at all...they are still going..they might be close to 20 years or more in the East pool...craziness I say...craziness!!!! cheers..
