Kris Versteeg hated Toronto for both the media and the crazy fans, supposedly they even keyed up his fancy R8. Seems to love playing in Florida. Lots of pro athletes thrive in the lower pressure environment.
- Blazed

it's hilarious you'd go there.. because i know versteeg.

he hated the atmosphere in toronto.. and he hated wilson even more.

he excelled in chicago, and that's not exactly a quiet market.

he loves florida. he loves it because it's (frank)ing florida. he chills on beaches after games getting ripped on by crazy hot women in bikini's.

Obviously a center, but i dont think the defense part is a major factor. Lets do this for a second.

Habs have price right, in my opinion the habs offense is terrible. Their whole team is terrible, and i believe price carries them to game wins. This is why they are in first. Next question, do you think the habs have a better defense core then us?

- Mapleleafs_91

Habs by far have a better defense then us.

He gets lit up a few games (as all goalies do from time to time), then the fans and media start jumping on him because of his ridiculous salary (and rightfully so), then he starts to become a walking punchline a la Brian McCabe, then we eat his 5.3 million dollar cap hit for eternity.

Dion is quickly approaching a 10 goal half a season AKA scoring at 20 goal season pace the gold standard for goal scoring dman.

Price hasnt carried them...they have played more like a team this year 1st, 2nd more healthy and 3rd and most important I believe: THE EAST STINKS THIS YEAR and we don't have to play any WEST teams.

There D is much better than ours I believe...Subban is as good as Phaneuf and we don't have a Markov - Emelin hit's like a wall - they are going to be tougher to beat...we won't get another 6-0 game IMHO

i've lived in ottawa, toronto, and calgary.

i see the differences.. and i don't think they're intense enough to warrant pro hockey players dodging the city. i'm sorry, i don't.

man, i see your argument.. but i disagree with it, respectfully.

if shane doan hates attention so much, why is he such a prominent part of our national teams?

could it just be that he's played and lived in a city for more than a decade, has a family there with roots.. and enjoys the city?

i get your angle, but i'm saying it's speculation.. and it can go both ways.

i would love to see some form of evidence that shane doan, or any other pro hockey player for that matter has sat back and said "ya know? i would've loved to play in toronto, but the media and those fans just ruined it for me. i could never play there under that pressure"

- joel878

dude, it's not speculation. He's (frank)ing said it in interviews. Ron MacLean did a feature with him a couple years ago at his ranch in Arizona and he said exactly that. He likes not having to deal with the media pressure on and off the ice every day. Away from the rink he can just leave it behind and be a normal guy. I'm not gonna go hunt for it to prove my point, but you can probably find it.

Lots of guys feel this way. Most? no probably not. but league wide? more than you would think.

yeaaah. that's why someone doesn't go there on hockeybuzz. as soon as you even mention a name, you're a guy on the internet who knows a pro. cool.

i know a few guys who play in the nhl. i played junior when i was younger. i've met friends of friends. my company has done work for a couple. c'est la vie.

with kris.. it was different. one would really have absolutely no idea how out of shape he was when he came to toronto. it was almost like he won a stanley cup at 23, and spent the summer having BBQ's, poopfaced every day, paying street hockey with friends.

he hated coming to toronto.. and not because of the media. i do believe the words cadillac to a k-car might have come up at some point.
