Its not that i want Luu so bad, you guys always say NO dont give up significant assets, etc etc. Guys like Miller will receive significant assets. Guys like Luu, realistically should not. Luu should come at an affordable rate when Gillis stops acting like a moron and actually takes whatever he can get.

I like luu because i think hes the best veteran goaltender to acquire at the moment. Kipper is older and does not want to leave, Khab is terrible, Miller will cost a fortune, Backstrom is worse than luu and is not leaving minny, Mike smith is an option but i really think he resigns with the team. Who does that leave? Luu

I think luu is good because he is statically one of the best shut out goaltenders in the league, won gold, and made the finals. See those squeakers like semins goal tonight? Guarantee luu saved that. Why? Because Luu is a bigger goaltender.

Leaves us Scrivens and Reimer who have been the least of our concerns this year. Our assets should go for a center and a number one or two dman. This team doesn't need Luongo or his contract.

who cares?

i live just outside of calgary. i bet you 5 days a week the flames poopshow is being discussed on my local networks, tsn, sportsnet west.. and is on the front page of literally every single major newspaper in the area.

are we to come to the conclusion that theres a certain level of media scrutiny that drives players away? alot of insane media is okay.. but there's a line?

- joel878

the majority of employees of any of those companies... are all here so if you think they are covering the Flames what do you think they do to the Leafs... with more staff that live here?

In ten years the cap will have increase enough that 5.3 million won't be that constrictive as a contract as it is now. I believe he can be very capabale for at least 7 years look at brodeur.

Yes I was going back to the same arguement because you kept using the same arguement people have tried for three years with Lou.

- Yeti1181

Brodeur dropped off around 38. Hasn't played 60 games in three years now.

That's what happens when you put a lot of miles on, much like Luongo.

dude there's like 20 other team in the league...

I'm not saying it's the only reason, but it is a very big factor for a lot of players. For others, it's not a factor. Some others even thrive on it - want to be in the spotlight - and those are the guys you want.

Shane Doan wouldn't play here for max money. and by HERE I mean in Canada. Loves it in Phoenix where nobody gives a poop about him. He's said it repeatedly.

Heart and soul guy we'd love to have wear the C in Toronto, and he doesn't like the media.

- Big_Lightnin

man, i see your argument.. but i disagree with it, respectfully.

if shane doan hates attention so much, why is he such a prominent part of our national teams?

could it just be that he's played and lived in a city for more than a decade, has a family there with roots.. and enjoys the city?

i get your angle, but i'm saying it's speculation.. and it can go both ways.

i would love to see some form of evidence that shane doan, or any other pro hockey player for that matter has sat back and said "ya know? i would've loved to play in toronto, but the media and those fans just ruined it for me. i could never play there under that pressure"

my three year argument with lou, is equally, if not less ridiculous than your endorsement of lou based on the pure speculative idea that in so many years, his contract won't matter because the escalating cap will be irrelevant.

that is nothing short of pure guess work, and baseless. i'm sure the lightning felt the exact same way when they signed lecavaliers contract.

Obviously a center, but i dont think the defense part is a major factor. Lets do this for a second.

Habs have price right, in my opinion the habs offense is terrible. Their whole team is terrible, and i believe price carries them to game wins. This is why they are in first. Next question, do you think the habs have a better defense core then us?

oh now he's being compared to Datsyuk
Put Staal with JVR and Kessel and maybe he does score 90 points.
Maybe I'm wrong and he's a dud but I doubt it...Dat's played with some pretty good players...and HE IS 1 of the top players in the WORLD now your getting into some new topics. It's all good...Staal is a #2 centre but has never had a chance to play #1 due to ALL WORLD PLAYERS in front of him. Anyways...i'm a Getzlaf fan

- Garnie

no one is saying J Staal is a dud. Maybe that's what you're not getting.

He just isn't a number 1.

his last year in Pitts he was #2 with Malkin on his wing for most of the year... didn't get anywhere near 90 pts.

Kris Versteeg hated Toronto for both the media and the crazy fans, supposedly they even keyed up his fancy R8. Seems to love playing in Florida. Lots of pro athletes thrive in the lower pressure environment.

You know what covers up defensive lapses and allows for more offence? Elite goaltending.

you know what counts as elite goaltending? better stats than our injury riddled 3rd year 24 year old goaltender.

I think the opposite, I think this team needs another top defenseman more then a center. Phaneuf who is our defense, needs his Suter, Seabrook, etc...

i've lived in ottawa, toronto, and calgary.

i see the differences.. and i don't think they're intense enough to warrant pro hockey players dodging the city. i'm sorry, i don't.
