What's a Fenwick number and why do the Leafs have the 5th worst number?
- Oilhab

Stats that place high emphasis on shots for vs against numbers and puck possession. Doesn't recognize the validity of low percentage vs high percentage chances. It would value Jason Blake over Nazem Kadri. Also considers Clarke Macarthur and his 5 or so points away from Kadri in 20 or so games over his 10 or so points i 10 gp with Kadri, because he's getting more shots and has the puck in his possession more often away from Kadri.

we need an improvement on our bottom 6...someone who can play hockey not just throw bombs.
I like having the goons around during the season, but no way we compete in the playoffs rolling meatheads.

- Barx

Exactly. Much rather have a Ryan Clowe or something in the bottom 6...over McLaren, Orr. I don't think we need both..or maybe even both. Who really fights in the playoffs? Komarov would be amazing for us in the playoffs I think. He'd be a beast.

fraser is a perfect bottom 6.
if he could skate he'd be top 4.....and someone like that costs 1st rounders and top prospects.

- Barx

He's just OK, he will probably be exposed a lot in the playoffs once the games get a bit faster and you're playing a good team every night. I'm not hyping Mark Fraser at all, as I think Toronto could easily upgrade over him.

I could deal with that, but the price would be steep

No more than the equivalent of what they paid in prospects and picks which was Setoguchi

If I was to pick a player that would be better suited on the 4th line for playoffs that we have, it would be Hamilton.
- LeafMan

I'm having a hard time judging his effectiveness at the nhl level....I'm sure he would see more ice than maclaren come playoff time tho.

Toronto could use a big winger in the bottom 6, imo.
- blahman20

Depending on how you look at their bottom six it is big enough but I would like them too add a big player like Clowe to somewhere.

I don't want Clowe, but I agree with this. Komarov is a great bottom 6 guy, plays his role perfectly, but Toronto could use a bigger body down there that can skate and be physical. I agree that one of McLaren or Orr probably don't suit up during playoff time (if Toronto gets there of course).

So it's bang on then? A lot of these advanced stats still a work in progress.

Yeah, but someone that can actually skate.

Matt Fenwick = Goofy blog kid

Seriously though, is there something to the idea that the Leafs get outshot (missed and on net) more often than not? Probably but take the next step and ask why.

It might be because they outscore their opponents quite badly in the first period. Teams, especially the Leafs, tend to get outshot when they fall back into a more defensive game. I think that's at least a part of it.

prollly be Hamilton-McClement-Komarov. Maybe McLaren stays in.

so you take out Orr for Komarov

Kessel Bozak Lupul
JVR Kadri Kulemin
MacArthur Grabo Frattin
Komorav McClement Mclaren

Edit: Or like Big_Lightning said put in Hamilton for McLaren.

Fraser has had an amazing year this far and isn't a bad skater.

Sun reporter Iain MacIntyre outlined how an earlier deal between the Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs fell apart when the Leafs refused to part with Nazem Kadri. The other prime piece on the table in the deal was centre Tyler Bozak, who - now halfway through the final year of his contract - has shifted into rental player territory.

MAybe the Leafs never gave up on the kid. Just some fans.

I could something like Mac/draft pick for an upgrade over Mac, but i'm not really sure what's out there. I just think Toronto could really use some size on the 3rd line, as they have a lot of players that play similar games.

Maybe not Clowe, but I don't know who else there is that is available? Can't think of one off the top. Always said I'd love to have Chris Stewart, but right now it doesn't look like it's possible because he's playing great for STL, and they're in a playoff spot, so I don't think they'd trade their leading scorer.

Not a big fan...he's played well, but he's nothing special and Toronto could do better, imo. That being said, i'd be ok with him being Toronto's 5th/6th D man going forward.

Fraser's not that slow, he just looks awkward as hell.

he's certainly not a pretty skater, but he's relatively mobile.

I've always liked Bozak and Kadri. Bozak is just in the wrong position on the team as the number 1 center.
