Doesn't Reimer and Scrivens have better numbers than the Canadians goalies right now? - Sheppy99
Reimer has a marginally better SV% than Price but that's about it. |

we would also be relying on our goaltenders to win every single night.
with or without great goaltending.. a team needs quality defense. the leafs have tons of defenseman, but the talent level lacks. carlyle is pushing a system that's making AHL guys look like they belong. they don't. - joel878
I'd tend to agree with this. He also has no patience for screw ups on the back end. Hence Gards sitting tonight.
That brings a high level of accountability to the team defensively.
But yes I've never been overly impressed with our defenses defensive ability.
I don't mind Phaneuf cause he's tough and battles but he's awkward as ol hell and doesn't have the highest hockey IQ |

What does LUU thrive on? More shots. (Panthers)
Luu is statistically one of the all time goalie leaders in shutouts.
Luu won gold.
Luu brought nucks to finals, lost the last game because the TEAM didnt show up in front of him. |

Leaf fan logic, bro reimer is good, he lets in like 3, 4, 5 goals a game having the leafs to keep on playing catchup. Then they disregard the goalie and blame the defense when the defense played decent this game. Then you have some who say, okay get a defender. We have like a billion(sarcastic) defenders in our system, we dont need another one. With a reimer and luu tandem, we would be one tough SOB team to go up against. - Mapleleafs_91
I just think Lou will cover up our fe mistakes so we don't need a d we need a goalie who can get us a save when we need it. |

Still better #'s though and to be in the same breath as Price is pretty damn decent. At the end of the day we are not losing games cause of goaltending and they both have been damn solid for us this year. Why throw away prospects and draft picks if they aren't hurting us? That's all I'm saying |

it's a lockout year...35 games...teams are just starting to gel and Cam Ward which is 3/4 of their defence hasn't played since the beginning of March.
you could pick 100 guys out this year that are overpaid...massively!!!!!
You can not like him and call him overrated...it's not like were dating!!! - Garnie
I do like him, but I just don't see the hype. I've never seen anything special about him, except his last name.
If his last name were Berglund, for instance, nobody would really care all that much about him and he certainly wouldn't be getting a 60 million dollar deal. |

if only there were some sort of... oh I don't know... STAT or something that could nail this number down to solidify your argument. That's what we need. Some kind of.. AVERAGE... ya. That tells us how many GOALS a goalie lets in on AVERAGE each game. That's what we need.
Somebody should come up with that.

Again, this is all par for the course for him, except for +/- when he has a top team to help buoy his numbers. |

i've ragged on phaneuf since he came to toronto with the best of em.
i find there's tons of holes in his game..
that being said, i (frank)ing guarantee if he were to play big minutes with a legit top pairing defenseman for the first time since he's been here.. i would become a much bigger phaneuf fan.
whether you love him or hate him, you can't properly assess him playing with pylons his entire time as a leaf.
i'm starting to want an actual top pairing defenseman to play with him just as bad as i want a #1 center. |

Exactly. Good player. Is fine for the second line. Not worth $6M though. Not even remotely close. And if I have to choose between Kessel and Staal, I easily take Kessel. Not even close.

Reimer also gets better goal support than Price does. But I agree with you, Reimer isn't losing us games. In his 20 decisions he's gotten 28 of 40 points, nothing to sneeze at there. |

Talks about averages, reimer always come back from injury and plays "okay". Lets in 4 or 5 goals a game, leafs playing catchup, the good thing about reimer is that he keeps us in the game at times. I relate him to goalies like in chicago. They have a good team in front, not saying were chicago, but the goalie level is still not the best in the league( they wont compare to guys like rinne, luu, kipper, miller etc) |

watch it on the highlights... he actually cross-checks him |

6'4" CENTER who has been playing behind Staal/Malkins shadow in Pitts.
You see what Eric can do..he's a beast...and ususally a freakn leaf killer too!!!
Anyways..I cheer for the leafs...I say we need 1 good D and we can ride this team into the playoffs and maybe even win a round.....and then you never know after that!!!! Boston doesn't look as scary this year - or we look scarier....I love Fraser out there...he has really quieted down the scrums around our net after the whistle....is just me or has anybody else notice...last year we would get pushed around after every whistle..this year...not so much!!!! |

you're not cheering for a team that's one goaltender away from winning a cup. you're just not.
luu has his credentials. he's also signed until he's (frank)ing 77.
are we actually supposed to give up assets to acquire a goaltender, with an increased cap hit, signed long term.. that might increase our teams GAA by a quarter of a point?
that's just not smart. |
