Yea, I've been the biggest hater of Lu and his contract since Jesus was a cowboy so you don't have to convince me......

trading for Lu is like marrying a hot girl tomorrow who's awful at sex and will never get any better. At first it seems like an ok idea but in a year or so the novelty will wear off and you'll realize you're in for a world of hurt and some difficult decisions

- Sheppy99

I'd have said a hot girl in her mid 30's with a fat mom... but we're on the same page.

point being, you're on borrowed time with what you really want, and after that, you're still stuck with it.

Kessel was playing with Bozak and Joey (frank)ing Crabb while Staal was playing on the best team in the NHL.

All you've managed to prove with stats is that Kessel has far more goals than Staal, even at even-strength.

The rest is conjecture and subjective opinion.

- Leeman4Gilmour

ok let's be friends...Staal was playing with the same talent...playing 3rd line mins and no pp...who cares...Kessel for Prime Minister.

I would LOVE to get that guy. I don't think it's happening unless he goes to free agency though.

I agree...somebody through his poopy +/- stat from this year.

I like both..maybe I can have both???

- Garnie

I really couldn't care less about +/-, except to show that Staal isn't exactly dominating defensively, either.

At 6 million dollars, he's on pace to be a 53 point, minus player this year. Again, is he not massively overpaid?

Yup. Find out exactly what you've got before you go shopping.

And right now, we've got a 12-4-4 goalie with a .916 sv%. I honestly don't know why this is even being rumored.

If I were going to improve this team with one move, goaltending would be the last place I'd look.

If we're willing to take on salary and trade some assets for an impact player, I'd start with Stastny or Boyle.

- Leeman4Gilmour

i agree with this.. except the stastny part. not big on him.

leafs could use a legit #2 to play with phaneuf (for the first time since he's been with a leaf).. before they need help between the pipes.

obviously there's a need for a legit #1 center to.. but i'm not big on giving up parts for a guy who can be called a 1B at best type center.

nonis should be looking to hit a home run. package grabovski with gunnarson.. throw in a couple decent depth prospects like percy, and leivo.. and throw in our 1st rounder. that's a decent package.

see if it can be thrown at teams like LA for kopitar. they have the center depth to afford stepping down from kopitar to grabovski.. they add a nice group of futures, and get some help on the blueline to.

it's a stretch.. but nonis can put an attractive package out there without gutting the franchise. this much, we know.

I think me and you are driving the Lou bandwagon till we get him
- Yeti1181

Leaf fan logic, bro reimer is good, he lets in like 3, 4, 5 goals a game having the leafs to keep on playing catchup. Then they disregard the goalie and blame the defense when the defense played decent this game. Then you have some who say, okay get a defender. We have like a billion(sarcastic) defenders in our system, we dont need another one. With a reimer and luu tandem, we would be one tough SOB team to go up against.

agreed. In a perfect world the leafs will be a cup contender in 5 years when Kessel is in his late twenties and everybody has matured and we've added a few more integral pieces and Colbourne has turned into something special. (yea chances of this happening...... I know)

And by that time Lu will be checking out retirement homes in Florida. So really what is the point. May as well go with a goalie who can grow with the team and if he doesn't. Adjust on the fly.

No way they shell out the $$$ to buy out Bryz.
- Leeman4Gilmour

yup. Though, a year (or several) on loan to the KHL isn't out of the question (can they still do that in the new CBA... a la Chicago and Huet?)

His GAA and sv% suggests he allows like 2 or 3 goals per game.

At this point, Philly would loan Bryz to a Siberian jail to clean out the urinals

it's a lockout year...35 games...teams are just starting to gel and Cam Ward which is 3/4 of their defence hasn't played since the beginning of March.

you could pick 100 guys out this year that are overpaid...massively!!!!!

You can not like him and call him overrated...it's not like were dating!!!

You're kidding me right the defence played good... Staal walked around Gunnar... the other was a breakaway goal on the PP... seriously Reimer is 12-4-4

which is maybe a coin-flip at this point. Jersey was a great place to sign when you knew Brodeur was in net 70+ games a year. not so much anymore

we would also be relying on our goaltenders to win every single night.

with or without great goaltending.. a team needs quality defense. the leafs have tons of defenseman, but the talent level lacks. carlyle is pushing a system that's making AHL guys look like they belong. they don't.
