Wasn't Gillis the slimy agent that screwed over the oilers when he represented Michael Nylander back in hte day?

- Sheppy99

i think he was.

either way. gillis is a pro at (frank)ing up the canucks.

try mentioning it to their fans.. they are so clueless as to what kind of situation their team is heading in. gillis basically has that team prepped to be the leafs of '04. they will do anything to validate how hes stud farming that whole team.

yes the leafs did blow a lead.. But it woke them up. Lupul, who should be captain, showed that he's the best player on the ice tonight.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

Agreed he made that great assist to Phaneuf to tie.. and then I could hear him thinking....

These buggers around me can't clear the zone.. F it... I will do it myself... then road the pony all the way to the net....

frikkin awesome...

That series was nuts.

The B's needed one more win, and I think all the final four games went to OT. Wasn't that only like the second time in history a team has come back like that?

- Leeman4Gilmour

B's up 3-0 in game 7 too

I was laughing my ass off then they lost. Very minor consolation for giving them Seguin

Ya start of season for sure - which is why I said they shouldn't have been 8th, or rather weren't a typical "8th seed winning cup". Too good on paper.

coaching change was huge too.

For playoff pool I picked LA-Pens.

i'm not going to argue..he's now the most overrated guy in the league, you said it!!!! I don't think you want to start comparing +/- do you?

He's in Carolina now...Cam Ward is down and they are stinking...we can start splashing stats..Kessel scores 30 to 40 percent of his goals on the PP...Staal would be lucky if he played pp in Pitts...you ride Kessel...I'll jump on Staal see who wins the next Stanley...good luck..I hope you win..as long as Kessel is still a leaf

if we want to splash stats...you say go!!!!

- Garnie

Jordan Staal is, these days, WAY overrated by some, and you're one of them, clearly. He's a 55ish point guy, that's all. There was so much talk about how he'd be a point per game guy once he made it out from behind Crosby and Malkin. The thing is, half his time in Pittsburgh, he was playing first and second line, because Malkin or Crosby was injured. He's just a good two way 55 point guy. He's like Grabovksi, basically.

Canucks fans are convinced they have piles of money to spend. They were discussing trading for Gaborik in one of their threads the other day. It basically went like "Ballard and Booth get bought out, Luongo traded for peanuts, that's basicaly $14M freed up. We can easily use that to make room for Gaborik." Then another one replied "We don't even need to get rid of Booth for that. He's a good player"
- Dirte

I can't wait until they are forced to blow that miserable team up.

I hope the Sedins screw them and refuse to be traded.

Lupul is awesome, should be made Captain. Reminds me of Gary Roberts, when he was a part of the Leafs.
- ThePresident

that would really turn the team upside down I believe, unless you trade Phaneuf.

Your not going to yank the C off a guy and upset the apple cart!!! IMHO

You see he get walked around enough now...imagine if he didn't give a frank anymore!!!

Who cares who's Captain..it's kind of a silly debate..just keep winning!!!!

How many presidents trophy winners win a cup?
- DoctorNHL

more then teams like LA do.

8th seeded teams that won their spot in the last game of the season do not win the cup on a regular basis.

just because LA won the cup as an 8th place team.. does not make the playoffs a wild card.

that's insanity. it happens once every so often? it's a rare thing. teams like boston and pittsburgh win the cup alot more often than teams like LA.

- joel878

I hate how that turned into just another thing to throw in Burke's face. I disagree with Brian that there's no value in squeaking into 8th place and losing in the first round (at least for a young, inexperienced team) but he was absolutely right in that there's almost zero chance an 8th seed wins the Cup. All the people saying that are either stupid or willfully ignorant to the fact that LA was far from a typical 8th seed.

gillis is the worst gm in the league now that howson is jobless. at this rate, they should fire him and replace him with JFJ.. just to take a step up.
- joel878

now wait... your getting way ahead of yourself.... per Gillis

1) there's a strong market for established goalies (this is true)
2) Luongo's contract is very attractive (I don't know what Gillis was smoking when he came up with that one)
3) "we don't have a goal tending controversy in Vancouver" (no actually you don't, you are correct Mr Gilis - you have a blind GM leading a blind fanbase spending over 5M a year for a back-up goalie who you yourself signed to a crazy long contract)
4) we're fielding calls about Luongo from almost every club (according to Asst Gm in Vancouver earlier this week)
5) which contracts are Vancouver going to buyout? so many to chose from... and who's going to ask the ownership if they can have a spare 30M$?

Gillis had a cup handed to him on a silver platter by Burke/Nonis and he still managed to blow it.

Their hatred for Burke and Nonis now is hilarious. They built 90% of that team and Gillis has been destroying it ever since.

I don't think a lot of owners are going to be as warm to this multiple buyouts idea as fans think they'll be.

Whatta (frank)ing game boys, wow, LUPUL IS A COMPLETE BEAST, BEAST MODE. Captain DION comes up big with the tieing goal, captain clutch!

Oh and i thought reimer had a weak game, and luu talks have resumed without the talks of gardiner or kadri in any deal with the nucks - Sportsnet

agreed. burkies ego was the downfall in his era, not the stamp he made on the team.

if he could've learned to shut his mouth and just make his moves.. things might've worked out fine.

it's the publically committing to his coach, his goalies.. stuff like that. there's just no need. the playoff stuff is just another example. when you have a young team.. squeeking into the playoffs as an 8th seed is a learning block. you create positives from there.
