I wonder what Yost's stupid formula says now about the Leafs? 10 days ago, it said that we're the 27th best team in the league. What a bunch of garbage. - PrinceLH
The advanced stats have some use, but what they don't account for are quality of shots (for and against) and compete level. Thats the main difference this year; the buds haven't quit on almost any game |

When J.Stall was in Pitt, I wanted the Leafs to get him to be Kessel's center but I would NEVER trade Kessel for either Stall. - GCHonda
If Eric was the same age as Kessel, I would trade him in a heartbeat for Eric. |

I'd totally do that. He can have Gunnar's spot. - Leeman4Gilmour
well there might be someone else who could fit nicely into Gunnar's spot... that would be Jake Gardiner.
package Gunnarson + for Edler - Vancouver surprisingly signed him for a bit too much and would appear to have some CAP issues.
and before the Canuckleheads start blathering... no Leafs don't want Ballard or Booth... and Luongo's only being dumped out of Vancouver in exchange for Komisarek and Liles. |

i think i would trade kessel straight up for eric, regardless of the age difference.
that's a scenario we can pitch all day, even without the family factor.. the canes would never bite.. |

I'd love the Leafs to finish 5th or 6th. Finishing 5th will likely give us a dream Leafs/Habs series. I see Boston finishing 1st in the East. If the Leafs stay in 6th, they will play Winn or Car for the 1st round. |

I'd do Kessel for Eric Staal straight up, but there's no way I'd trade him for Jordan unless Carolina were throwing in some serious assets. |

Jordan Staal is not the type of player you build a team around. He's a good second line center who will get you 50-ish points a year.
Jordan Staal used to be one of the most under-rated guys in the league. Now, he's one of the most overrated.
He's not even justifying his salary right now. I like him, too, but he is what he is. He's not in Kessel's range in terms of talent. - Leeman4Gilmour
what the frank...the guy plays 2nd or 3rd line in Pitts and was the leagues most underrated player and 30 games on a new team and now he's the most overrated....wow thanks for the input!!!

I'd consider Jordan Staal for Kessel. Big power forward centers are a lot harder to come by than scoring wingers.....
And I can foresee a future that has Kessel being a non factor in 80 percent of the playoff games he plays in. |

even from a leaf fan perspective.. the + would have to be something meaty to convince the nucks to step down from edler to gunnarson.
edler is one of the few decent pieces on that team. |

I don't know why people forget Kessel actually played in the playoffs.
You don't need foresight to predict how he'd do when you have history to use. |

.. not for me.
i'd like to find kessel a kopitar or a matt duchene.. someone who can bury his pucks, just as good as he can feed em to kessel all day. we need to compliment kessel with some real talent.. not punt him.
i'd also like a BJ from mila kunis. |

They sure could, but they are winning games, that they would have lost, in previous years. Teams that are underachievers and part of the back end of back to back games, used to kill us. In past years, we would have lost to the Panthers and Canes, in game like this. It's not happening this year. They're dangerous and have their scoring spread over several lines. If Kessel doesn't get you, Kadri, Lupul, JVR or someone else will. Last year, if a team shut down the Kessel line, we lost. This year, others have carried the mail and gave us the wins. This is not last years Leafs. |

he's never been the feature player on a playoff team though.
history is there, but under very different circumstances. |

Well when he plays against teams that give him little space and bares down on him physically, (against the Boston Bruins) he usually disappears and does nothing.
Factor in that most games you will play in the playoffs are like that and require grit and determination to score more than speed and quickness...... You see the conclusion I'm getting at |

Is he earning his 6 million dollar cap hit?
He's on pace for a prorated 53 points, which is - surprise! - exactly what he's always been.
And he's a -9, so it's not like his defense is exactly picking up the slack here. |
