For capitalism to succeed, there always has to be poorer nations to balance out the equation. As one nation gets richer, another one has to fall down.
Nobody cared when most Western nations were doing very well at the expense of third world nations but now that China's economy has risen, it has caused some of these Western countries financial standing to lower.

There is only 1 pie when it comes to capitalism and when one country rises to take a bigger piece, another has to give up some of theirs.

Ultimately not a sustainable system over the long term. Especially when you factor in corruption due to greed etc.

- Sheppy99

That's not true at all. Capitalism spawns competition and innovation that only helps to expand a society. What has hampered it is the meddling of government agenda's through corporate and consumer taxation. If left to it's own accord, the functions of supply and demand would actually enhance every society (not just the west).

Capitalism reflects reality and human nature more than any other system.

We all want a piece of the pie, whoever is strongest gets the biggest piece, and whoever's the weakest feeds off the scraps of the strongest.

Life on earth really is a zero-sum game. Once you realize that, you realize why Communism is doomed to failure. The only way for communism to succeed is in a post-scarcity world. For that you need some kind of cornucopia technology. Until you have that, the weak will continue to suffer for the strong to thrive.

Captialsim lifts everyone up, this is true. But it doesn't even everyone out. Relatively speaking, you'll still have the same gaps between the rich and the poor.

Oh, I know, trust me

That Nikon is a good bridge camera, the Fujifilm one is better, though.

I shoot with a 60D- Love it, but it'd be awesome to get a large-format camera.

Since I'm bored and I have read posts saying we are inquiring about Paul Stastny and David Backes I'm going to play fantasy gm mode for a minute.

hypothetically: We could turn Grabovski, Kulemin, Gardiner, MacArthur and our first round pick into Stastny and Backes.. plus maybe one or two prospects outside of Reilly. Do we do it?

Grabovski and MacArthur for Stastny... seems fair?

Kulemin, Gardiner and a first for Backes.... seems fair?

JVR - Stastny - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Backes
Hamilton - Bozak - Frattin
Komorov - McClement - Orr/Mclaren

Totally agree with this. You'll always have a gap between rich and poor. The goal imo should be raising the poor as much as you can without hampering competition and innovation.

To date, capitalism is the only system to come close to doing this.

Nietzsche actually hated liberal democracy. I thought the concept of giving equal recognition to every man was laughable. So I see what you mean.

Nietzsche believed in a society which preached survival of the fittest. He felt it was the only way man would progress to farther levels. He felt liberal democracy and the idea of equal recognition for all would cause us to become lazy and drag our feet and society as a whole would be doomed. It's our desire to be recognized over our fellow man that enables us to be the best.

My professor in university who was a very brilliant sociologist used to laugh at the idea that American society tells us we can be whatever we want. He felt it created a society built on illusions and that everybody in it felt they were only one step away from being rich and famous which allows us to tolerate incredible levels of inequality in our society.
