trying to find a positive on Homer
- vejim

His team has won more playoff rounds than all but one team in the past ten years. That's a pretty nice positive

I like him....but i just get the feeling something stinks...i understand you can get a concussion at practice....but so close to the trade deadline? timing seems odd

wish the guy the best though and a speedy recovery. hopefully before the 3rd

- Philly1980

Agreed. I'd rather trade him than burn a CBO on him, and I doubt he has value in the offseason.

Why should a team that's out of the playoffs and already has a shallow prospect pool trade for two veterans that would be rentals for 20 games or so?
- Jsaquella

to re-sign both guys for the next 2 seasons!
all this talk about bringing back jagr ..

They will be UFAs this summer, as will Jagr. Make the pitch then, why trade assets?

Sounds like a good time for a buzzgate. Nobody will buy tickets, we'll all just tailgate the concert. Bring a projector to play the Bud Light commercial on loop, and put up a big banner identifying us as the "Pitbull + Bud Light Official Unofficial Fan Club".

Is it really worth signing Jagr at age 41 going into a 82 game season when the team most likely won't be a contender?

Theoretical question (since we do this a lot around here)...

If you could get a defenseman who could be Kimmo's replacement, would you trade Hartnell for him?

Two guys that I think about about are Tobias Enstrom and Alex Edler.

Of course a star like Doughty/Pietrangelo or future star like OEL would be better but that's not realistic.

I would do the deal.

We keep the young forwards, lose a huge veteran presence and legit top line winger, but the puck moving defenseman is harder to get then the winger, IMO.

I think that the Flyers, assuming the add a top pair defenseman and hire a coach that gets them playing disciplined hockey, will be a second tier contender as soon as next year.

That said, no, I don't sign Jagr

I'd trade Hartnell for Edler right now. I'd do it even if they had traded Read for Bouwmeester.

Doubt Vancouver or Winnipeg would do it, but those guys would be good additions to the Flyers

As I posted before, it's very reasonable to expect Coburn and Hartnell to rebound. It's reasonable to expect Couturier and Schenn to come out of their sophomore issues and be better players. It's reasonable to expect Giroux to be better after this learning experience

Also, under a new coach, and if they add a top pair defenseman, they should be at least filling roles in accordance with their abilities.

The good thing about 2006-07 was the promise of a ton of cap room

- Jsaquella

I think so too. I also think a couple high end draft picks could really help us down the road as well.

edit-though I don't think it's the coaches. I think it was the schedule, the inexperience of the young players(who for us play key roles), and the lack of practice time to correct. But I would not be surprised if someone swings for this season.

I will be in Warminster, drinking cold beer and laughing at all the poor bastard Comcast guys who didn't think ahead and have to work the worst weekend in the world.

The last few Memorial day weekends, I have piled up 14 & 16 hour days like crazy. I'm drinking beer and watching baseball this year

That's the cherry on top. Plus we only have to deal with 48 games of suck, not 82.

I hate that we suck this year, but this team can be likened to the Habs last year. Look at how getting their top dman Markov back has helped that team. I think the young core is solid, and Bryz has been just fine IMO. We get a top pick, a top dman somehow, and I think we are back in business. Homer can't strike out this summer on replacing Pronger..however.
