This team on paper is not a playoff team. We were picked 15th by everyone and if they make the playoffs wee wouldn't want this coach back? Think about all the points we've pissed away cause of bad goaltending. How is that Capps fault?

I agree there are better choices out there but maybe some credit needs to go the coaching staffs way. This team looked dead during their early 5 game losing streak. They have some god awful losses but they have won three games on the road this year in tough buildings after falling behind 2-0.

We can only hope Cappy learns something if we make the playoffs. If the Isles handle this deadline the right way it could go a long way with JT and some other players around the league as well as the fans. This is a chance to earn respect especially if we make the playoffs.

If the Isles were to slip into the playoffs it certainly creates an odd dynamic on the Cappy front. It would be hard to fire a coach who just got this team into the playoffs for the first time in 6 years. That said we've seen an awful lot of terrible decisions by him at key times. I can't help but believe that things like his misuse of Grabner, refusal to bench Reasoner & odd ball line pairing decisions may have actually cost this team several points. Cappy is primarily our 5 on 5 coach, which happens to be the area which we struggle most. Our powerplay, which has carried us, is coached by Weight. Another issue is this team doesn't respond to Cappy. It seems to respond more to his assistant coaches. I'm a bit concerned that keeping Cappy could cost us some success in the not so distant future.

I gotta ask... If we make the playoffs... is the rebuild on target then? Do we stop bashing Garth on this issue. I just ask because everyone 3 weeks into the season had already written this season off. Had already grabbed their torches and were headed to Garth's office to burn the man at the stake. The whole "he said X amount of years" "This year is a failure" Well if we make it... then maybe he gets some slack?

This is what they have to learn- MacDonald has to block that shot during that last sequence. HAS TO- he blocks the shot, a forward is busting straight out with the puck, it's 4-2, and the fans go home. You have to block shots. I don't know what that half-as*ed thing is that they all try to do all the time with one leg, like a goalie with no pads, but someone needs to explain shot blocking to them. That would go a long way towards ensuring they don't blow any points.

That said- it was nice to finally beat the orange pile of cr*p. They suck, and it's a shame that a GOOD coach is going to lose his job because the GM is an idiot, but that's how it works in this business.

This is why they absolutely needed two last night. You have to take what you can get. You can't lose to garbage when Pittsburgh and Boston are also on the schedule. Sometimes, you can get lucky if the other team takes you lightly, but sometimes, the other team is just better. When the other team is NOT better, that is when you must make d*mned sure that you win.

They have blown AT LEAST 10-12 points already this year. They have 14 left- two against teams which I consider to be better (PIT, BOS); four against teams that thus far have been equivalent at best, although I still think one of these teams SHOULD BE better than they are (NJ, 2 against WPG, and Rag$), and the rest are against cr*p. They cannot blow any more points against cr*p if they want to make the playoffs.

This team is doing OK in spite of Capuano. A good example is him breaking up one of the most effective lines this team has had since Snow became GM for far too long. The guy is clueless beyond words. I would'nt want him back.

Lavi and Wang I think are still close from all the reports I heard and Peter has spoken well of Wang in the past. I can see Wang wanting to hire Peter again.

Would love to see laviolette back as coach if Philly fires him. One of the biggest mistakes of the Milbury Era was firing Laviolette. It would be nice to correct that mistake.

clowe cant produce on SJ, what makes you think he woudl be huge pick up by isles.

i would definite do Nino for Stafford. Are you nutz. Stafford is excellent and still very young. Nino has world class talent. However he is Lazy and whines too much.

two weeks ago everyone was complaining that isles wont make moves. But now we dont want to make trades.

martinek and Resoner have no trade value. You need to give to get.

- Spartiarti

I wouldn't trade Niño for Stafford. Stafford is a nice player, but Niño has a higher ceiling.

I totally understand what Snow has done. Bc of Wang losing money every year, they have shifted to a rebuild, bc it takes time, plus helps with low salaries, and depth within the organization. I think the fans are frustrated bc we have some pieces in place, and if this team sprinkled in some better talent, isles could/would have been a better team, and this process could have gone a little faster.
Prior to the announcement to Brooklyn, Wang was NOT going to keep putting money into the team/players, since his project got rejected, and he continues to lose millions every year. Understand that also.
Just most fans would have probably want this team to try and change some of the inconsistencies that this team has, coaching, defense, KO, Bailey, certain other players. But Snow has stood pat. My only issue is if we are rebuilding, am im not a scout/or any other professional, but even I can see the holes or lack of talent this team has. And I feel if your gonna rebuild, you need to maximize your return. Snow has done a bad job on evaluating his own talent, or capitalizing the market of a players worth. Ex: "When Comeau had his break out yr, I was the only one here screaming to trade him, half of the fans argued back that im nuts, who looks foolish now" theres more but don't need to list them.
Since the lock-out, finally announced, there is a destination for this team, BROOKLYN will be their new home. To me, this year is a pass bc most of the FA were gone/signed with teams before lock-out. But next year should be no excuse on improving team with talent, whether it be by trades or FA. There is only 1 untouchable player on this team TAVARES, just about everyone else can be had for the right price/or player. Fans have to stop being homers and understand that.
So in all, I don't bash Snow for his drafting, waiver wire pick ups, I criticize his evaluation of his players, and maximizing the market, and maybe working the salary cap by being creative, "And I do understand Wang does not want to spend on this team until they move".

This years team, we have players who have the potential to bring back either players or high end draft picks. Some want to make the playoffs, I don't, only bc this team is not built for the playoffs, and we have chips to help bring back significant aspects. I can keep going, but I will stop......

#Isles Garth Snow will look to improve his play off bound team, any real serious thoughts on who he could bring to help short/long term

I think Snow won't want to break up the chemistry...but I think he gets Clowe for a 3rd or 4th rd pick...he'll waive either Martinek or Reasoner or he trades Nino for Stafford...

- kear20

I don't know why you're all about Stafford. Trust me...he'd be the biggest "questionable effort" player on a team that already has a few of them to deal with if he came here. Don't need another forward whose teeth you have to pull just to get him to go to the tough areas. Skilled player when he does go there, but I'd take any player out there with half the skill and twice the drive. And to trade Nino for him...

Stafford scored 30 goals one time ever and has never scored more than 20 once any other season. His highest point total is exactly equal to the highest point total of Okposo. You would seriously trade one of our best prospects for that??
- eichiefs9

"Grass in greener" mindset. I'm all for moves, but jeez, people, there's a reason his goal total dropped from a career-high 31 in his contract year to 20 after he got his big payday down to just 5 this year...

I don't think the Isles will have a choice but to add salary and higher end talent this summer. They are so far below the floor through artificial contract hits (Vis makes $3M, but his cap hit is $5.6; Tim Thomas' hit, etc.) that they will have to sign guys to get to the floor. They're likely losing the contract hit of Vis and will definitely lose Thomas' number next season. You're also likely losing Reasoner's and Martinek's salaries as well, so that's like over $12M in cap money alone. And that's assuming they re-sign Streit (which will be to a lower number than his $4M hit), Nabby and Boyes, which aren't guarantees.

the only guy on the roster who's in for a significant raise is Hamonic. Moulson has to be extended, but he's not going to make much more than the $3M he makes now. Its all lining up for an requirement to spend next summer. If this team makes the playoffs, they are now a playoff team moving into a new arena in no more than two years shopping for UFA's as opposed to a bottom five team with no idea where they'll be in a couple of years shopping for UFA's, which they've been the past few summers. Garth should be able to add decent pieces to fill out this roster even if he were to promote guys like Donovan, Nino, Strome and Nelson/Lee.
