Color me surprised, I thought(for sure) Jerome was going to the Bruins only because the fit made more sense. Is Malkin still a go to play soon or is there something else afoot with him? Whatever, though, he'll be there for the playoffs.
This is going to be a killer team with the power of 3 captains on board. Give them a month to gel and watch the fun. Oh, while it's so easy to hate the Pens, it's so easy to realize how incredible this new team will be in a few weeks. Bastards!
Good luck to everyone else, but just put down your sticks and give the Cup to Pittsburgh. |

It's true that no team is a favourite over the rest of the field, but no knowledgeable hockey fan can say for certain that they will not when the cup. If I had to bet my life savings on one team, it would be the Penguins hands down. - Nucker101
Maybe, but if I had to bet my life savings on either PIT or the field of 15, I'd go the field. I know I'm being a smart ass but just sayin' that I'd play the odds, which was the reason behind me saying they wouldn't win. Of course I don't know. If I did have that sort of insight I wouldn't be posting on HB at 11:09pm. |

LOL I'm not, wishing them the best honestly. They still need to play the games and so many things can go wrong (on any team). |

bigger issue to me, as a b's fan...does this completely turn them off for guys like glencross who could be useful - Toad in Nj
Glencross is virtually untouchable. Most likely their next Captain, and due a raise in a season. |

I totally agree that the field>>any team in the NHL, but the Pens are the team that you'd have to choose if you had to pick one team. |

They gave up NOTHING. 2 Prospects that arent even signed, and a pick that will be 30th.
Its an absolutely fantastic trade for Pittsburgh no matter what happens in the future
Feaster is the worst GM in the league, and is pushing towards Mike Milbury for worst all time. Feaster is top 5 worst GM ever now with this move

almost always the real deadline winner (as in, team that makes deadline trades that win them the Cup) are quiet deals by contenders that nobody talks about that much
Carter deal last year was an exception |

Feaster played this like a genius, he knows pens wont resign iginla. But Chiarelli was insisting on locking up iggy to use him as more then a rental.
Now flames (a team who was already out) get a 1st in a deep draft, and will resign their captain (fresh off a cup win) - DJD209

I lol'd.
If this happens, and Cammi stays, I will legitimately stop watching hockey until they are eliminated.
Jbo will get more than Iggy. He is not a rental, and would look good in a Maple Leaf - FLflames34
Wouldn't mind acquiring him, would make a decent top pairing with Dion. |

Darryl was still a worse GM than Feaster has been so far.
It's also worth noting that it's only now that Feaster can be said to have full autonomy and responsibility over the direction of the team. |

this is more likely than if he went anywhere else...but time will tell
Nielson was tradied for 2 2nds (oh my god what are they thinking!)
Nieuwendyk picked in the 2nd round...wins cup, points ect.
Nieuwendyk traded for Iggy
the first round pick is blessed as are the NCAA guys

True. The playoffs are all about staying healthy, getting hot and getting some lucky bounces at the right times. Obviously outchancing your opponents will increase your odds of winning though which I expect the Pens to do on a consistent basis. |

if the bruins would get their poop together, start skating, forchecking..they would be, or anyone would be..a tough match for the pens
pens d is still suspect and the goaltending is inconsistent
are they the favorites on paper..sure..but i can see anyone knocking them off too if they make them play in their own end

Hankowski, Agostino and a 1st for Iginla
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - Unholy_Forward
Decent counterpoint, especially considering Kaberle also had an NTC (and IIRC, was only accepting trades to Eastern teams) and was worth virtually nothing a half-season later. |
