Dear Clouts: I really enjoy your blogs, but this time you went waaaaaay too far. Come on, one thing is what you would like (and most oiler fans) and another one is what is actually feasible.
Milan Lucic is what 32 out of 30 teams want. It is the power forward by definition. To think that he is coming to Edmonton because of Iginla trade makes no business sense, for the following reasons, but first one thing, I wish you were right, and if you are, I will be the first one to comment in this blog what a Hockey Wizard you are, so Lucic is not coming to Edmonton because:
1. And most important: why not trade him for Iginla and a few picks? Lucic is younger than Iggy and they can build around him and a few youngsters, what is the need of having the Oil involved? It could be a straight trade: Iggy for Lucic, and the Shames would take it.
2. What does DeKeyser have to do with anything? Whether he signs or not, that kid is not ready to be in the NHL, and you know it.
3. In case that your answer to 2 is that Boston would be getting Whitney and we need to fill the hole in D.... COME ON! Even you remind us everyday how worthless is Whitney and now you are saying that actually Boston needs him and that they'd be willing to make the Whits part of the deal that lands us Milan Lucic????
4. Paajarvi being part of the deal actually makes sense, but to ship him to the Shames? Wouldn't the Shames have to agree? I mean the kid is getting better every night, but, one thing is good, another one is Iggy good. And I hate the Shames as much as anyone else, but Iginla is a great player, he cannot be replaced by Paajarvi, now, really, really, really, I do not know who is smoking more dope here.
5. Including Anton Lander to make the package better.... no further comments, weren't you the one who said the Oil would trade him for a ham sandwich? now a ham sandwich, a useless player and a kid who is developing (to be sent to another team) lands us the power forward we have been looking for a million years?
6. And last: What need does Boston have? They are a genuine cup contenders as it stands. Lucic may be in a draught but he is a good player, why would you give him away? to make the oil faithful happy?
This is not what I do for living (as you can all see) and again, I seriously like your blogs Richard, I read all of them everyday, but if you wrote this one to make me sign up to the site and let you know how I feel, you made a point.... again, I hope you are right and I am willing to "pump your tires" publicly if you are, but OH MY GOD, WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING????? |

Yeah, you're gonna have to chop this little novel here down by about 500 words for me to properly comprehend it. |

I got to give it to you RC. I try to tick this many non oilers fans off and you do it with a headline. In the end they come out looking worse than they think you do. The trade IS plausible. In theory. I am not saying it is going to happen but looking at if from all 3 sides, it does make sense.
Oilers have too many players. Whitney is a UFA but still decent. Paajarvi is still ranked high by scouts and the Oilers first round pick will probably be top 5 in a strong draft.
Calgary trades pending UFA Iggy to Boston who wants an experienced forward and he is the best on the market for their run.
Lucic is big with decent numbers which appeals to the Oilers but has a hefty contract and with boston's depth, he can be replaced.
Whether the college kid signs or not, the oliers still have too many dmen, so that is a moot point. If boston wants Iggy, they will need to look at party with a salary and Lucic's 5th in their points and gettin 6 mil. He is the obvious choice.
If Calgary wants to rebuild they will have 2 first round picks and from what you say, boston is keeping edmonton's prime one, so they are set. Calgary gets a solid dman to replace jbo and a fast winger. Great start to a rebuild if they can trade jbo in for something similar.
This is a logical trade for all parties involved. Will it happen.... probably not but it is not crazy. You made 15 pages of people look stupid by calling you out on what I think might have been the most reasonable trade suggestion I have heard in a while. |

Lander scored a goal in a losing effort for OKC tonight. If only Lander's potential had been there instead of packing his bags for Boston to run for mayor. |
