My biggest concern going into the season was too many "if"s. IF Read, Simmonds, Vorachek and Coots build off strong seasons. If Talbot and Hartnell didn't have a big falloff from last year. If Kimmo didn't lose another step. If Mesz and Grossmann could remain injury free. If Bryz became the goalie he was in Phoenix. Etc

Homers big failing was expecting too many, if not all, of those IFs to work out in the Flyers favor.

- TheGreat28

Honestly, how many teams don't go into a Season with a bunch of if's? Espeically a team with a bunch of young players.

All I can say is let the record show I was a Flyers fan even when they sucked.

On this team - hindsight and all - Jagr's wish to be in the top 6 would be a no-brainer. I thought another year of his leadership and tutelage wouldn't have been a bad idea, anyway. Oh well, spilled milk.

Gonna sit back and see where they go from here. Should be an interesting summer.

- tangent_man

My boss, a Flyers season ticket holder, said they would miss him when he signed with Dallas and got in his "I told you so" yesterday. I believe you are both correct. Jagr's contributions to the team have been revealed to be irreplaceable.

A lot of us were here in 2006-07. Except BulliesPhan87. He was following the Senators that year.

At what point does Snider realize his edicts are more of a hindrance than a help. Maybe when he sees Bob as a finalist for the Vezina this year (he comes in second by my tally) he will back off.

Personally, even right now in hindsight, I would not have brought Jagr back. I don't beleive he's make much a difference in this situation.

I still don't know why the Flyers were interested in Parise anyways. Was it just to get Suter here too?
- eayost

Parise is an excellent two-way forward.

Too many to realistically expect to compete for a cup this year. Actually, we should probably give Homer some credit for not making a panic trade after his 0 fer free agency.

Spot on as usual Bill. There is no one person to blame for this fiasco. Everyone is culpable and has their fingerprints on this mess.

Firing the coach would be a start, but it's far from the cure. This roster has to be overhauled in a significant way. Ed Snider has to pick a GM and let the guy do his job without getting involved. Snider is a brilliant businessman, but he's also 80 years old and should not be involved in any hockey personnel decisions.

I think everyone needs to step back and realize this is not our year. It is time to look to the future, evaluate talent, make trades as needed. The team has talent, it just needs a better blend to make it all work together.

Move players that won't be here next year, get what you can in return, start growing from within better than in the past. I believe last years off season was a sign that you can't buy every player you want. Suter and Parise were NEVER coming here, and its hard to know if Weber was every really interested in coming, he seriously could have known Nashville would have matched anything and just pushed their hand that way.

I believe the worst thing that could have happened for the Flyers is not failing this year, BUT being so good last year. Last year was supposed to be our down year and we exploded out of the gates and won and won, the playoffs against the devils and this year are more in line with who this team is right now. Which isn't a bad thing, it shows what we need and what we need to strive for. We aren't a BAD team, just a team that needs to grow up more.

anybody else think it's time for Lavy to go? I mean, we have the talent, but the system just isn't working.

I do. They certainly have the talent to be better than 28th place in the league, and I cannot bear the thought of watching another season of this garbage.

It's time for a fresh start. Dallas Eakins, come on down.

That's the whole point. After Suter and Weber, what was left? Fringe players.

Some of the players on this list could have helped. At least they would have been upgrades over Gervais and Foster.

If the players on this list are fringe players, what does that make Gervais and Foster?

Now Bill, don't sugar coat it...give it too us straight.

Serioiusly...there are too many issues from top to bottom on this team to even try to point to just one thing...besides the impact of the lockout and the disjointed start too the season. And that should have been overcome in the first 10 games or so.

- wbon22

There is not a lot wrong with this team.

A healthy Pronger would have put them in the middle of the pack for a playoff position.

Going forward, they need to avoid doing anything stupid as a result of over reaction.

They need a #1 D who will log 25 minutes a game. A #1 D is an expensive proposition if you trade for one. Other than for the exceptional players, you are talking about a 4 to 5 year development period for a player like a Pronger or Weber.

So, essentially you need to decide are you going to deal or are you going to draft and develop a homegrown talent.

I think the Subban relationship with Montreal is very fragile. He is popular with the fans. He is not popular with management, coaches or in the dressing room. If the Canadiens blow up in the playoffs, Subban will be moved. What is a fair price for a team like the Flyers to pay for a talent like Subban?

I would have made a coaching change on March 9th, after the 3-0 los to Boston.

Now, it's pointless.

No, it was a pretty weak list overall from a defensive standpoint.

I don't believe that stuff. Subban is one of the best young defensemen in the league and Montreal aren't stupid enough to let him go, especially with Markov's age and injury history. They will be building their D around him.

I don't know anyone who thought this team was a Cup contender. When you make the moves the Flyers made, in trading top players for younger guys. There is the expectation that it is going to take some time.

But at what cost? And for how many years? There were a handful of defenseman worth signing to a multi year deal for large money.
