That's where I'm at. If there is a chance to move him and draft a strong puckmover in the first I would be all over it.
- hereticpride

If I could get a top 15 pick for him, I'd be tempted. Maybe even a top 20 pick, that I could bundle with a 2nd rounder and move into the top 10, if Jones wasn't on the board with my first pick, so I could get a shot at Nurse, Pulock, Ristolainen, Zadorov or Morrissey

Playing a more disciplined defensive system with a stress on proper positional play by the forwards will make ALL Flyer defensemen look better next year.
- BiggE

We shall see. Timonen's turnover last night that lead to the first Rangers goal, had nothing to do with positional play, coaching, systems or any of that. It was simply a veteran player making a terrible/careless decision.

Yeah. He's doing algebra. Not sure that Couturier is over thinking, just seems worried to make a mistake, so he hesitates and boom, turnover.

He did look awful on the 4th goal last night. Spectating.

- Jsaquella

TaKe last nights game. I know the Coach is trying to switch up lines and trying to get something going. But he has Talbot is playing up with Giroux. And Couturier is playing with Read and Rinaldo, matched up against Nash. Seeing that he is struggling, and not providing any offense. Why not play him on a scoring line, with good offensive wingers. And tell the kid, don't worry so much about defense. Just go out and play your game, have some fun, and just play! Take some pressure off of the kid.

That's exactly my point. Couturier is going to have issues digging out of his own hole if the coach takes his shovel and replaces it with a spork

The forwards are young. This defense needs to be totally reworked and dismantled.

His skating concerns me somewhat. He showed last year he has intelligence long beyond his age, not to mention very responsible defensively. The lack of offense this year is most likely due to playing with below average wingers, as well as losing confidence.

His regression has been one of the most disheartening things to see in a season full of them.

- PLindbergh31

He needs to get more explosive. He often looks like hes laboring out there at 20 Yoa. Get him on the Roberts program or something.

For what its worth here's what I'd do at the deadline
If Briere is medically cleared and waives his NMC trade him for as high a pick as you can get, if not, use the buyout after the season
Move Gagne and Fedotenko for draft picks. If you want Gagne back you can always re-sign him in free agency.
Trade Coburn if, and only if, you can get a 1st round pick this year and a 2nd next year; as much as he has struggled, if Douglass Murray is worth a 2nd and 3rd, Coburn is worth a 1st and a 2nd.

Some other moves I'd make:
Waive Knuble and Foster as soon as the Phantoms season ends, time to let the kids play.
Shut down Timonen for the rest of the season and let his foot heal and spare him some wear and tear going into next year.
Finally, go with the following lineup (assumes Coburn is traded)

McGinn-Giroux-Voracek
Talbot-Schenn-Simmonds
Hartnell-Couturier-Read
Harry Z-Wellwood-Rinaldo

Gustafsson-Schenn
Mezaros-Grossmann
Manning-Gervais

Bryzgalov to alternate starts with Cal Heeter

Pray for a top 3 pick in the draft, at worst they will probably pick 6th or 7th at this rate anyway and lastly, find the right coach!

That may work.

Does the team have any good offensive wingers?

The rub was always Coot's skating. He's looked like he's improved a bit but he still has a way to go yet.

Coburn bloooows....he has never been what the flyers or fans expected him to be.....the only above average skill he has is his skating, but he does not hit the way a guy his size should... he can't hit the (frank)ing net...and everytime time i see a really bad defensive breakdown that costs them a goal he ALWAYS seems to be the prime suspect.....i wouldnt of had a problem getting rid of him 3 yrs ago....but his poop play is really standing out now

Regarding Couturier
He, more than perhaps anyone on the Flyers, would benefit from a coaching change. As someone stated earlier, Lavy is coaching for his life and when coaches get into that mode they normally lean heavily on veteran players and have NO patience for the mistakes of younger ones.

I know a lot of you are not big fans of Terry Murray. However, if you start with the premise that this team needs to be rebuilt on D and the young forwards need a couple years to develop and reach their peak, Murray would be then be a perfect coach for the next 2 seasons. He is a very good combination of teacher/disciplinarian which is just what the Dr. ordered.

Fire Lavy now, get Murray in here and sign him for the rest of this year and the next 2 years. Then go out and find the coach to take what is now a young and well prepared team to the next level.

The Defense could use one top defenseman, and a minor upgrade for the 3rd pair. The biggest thing they need to do for the defense is improve the team game.

I dont know how much the flyers should/can do trading wise. The value of all these guys is floating in a toilet right now. The only thing is Murray has supposedly sucked for 2 years but still got 2 2nd rounders. And then Jokinen clears waivers....I know Jokinen has another year but it just doesnt make much sense to me

There is such a huge premium on D right now that even Coburn could most likely get them at least a 1st.

It's just another example of the really poor Coaching job Laviolette has done this Season. Even the kids defensive game is going in the toilet.
