He could stay, and then leave as a rental next year when things settle down more on the family front. I'm surprised this wasn't discussed behind the scenes. Possible Feaster said no?

Couldn't any player makes this threat effectively giving themselves a NTC?

There's always the risk you could be traded to the Islanders, they don't mind taking goalies that don't want to report. Kippers cap hit is right in their wheelhouse.

I created a hb account just to throw in my 2 bits lol. I have 3 kids all under 3yrs old and my youngest is under 1 month. If I had an opportunity to earn over $5MILL/year and support my family by moving to (insert worst place kipper could be traded here) for a year or two... my wife and I would decide to make that sacrifice in a heartbeat!!!

Hire help around the house. Fly your family/friends in to visit every other week.

You ppl who make it sound like he's noble for choosing family first are being silly. Life is about choices and he had a choice at one point to negotiate a full NTC/NMC and sacrifice a bit of pay. Now he decides he wants both. All the pay and all the control. It's childish. Disappointing.

But I do agree that I am more frustrated than this whole situation is worth. Kippers stats are no longer amazing and there is a surplus of tenders who don't eat up so much cap. So at the end of the day who cares I guess. It'll just be hard to watch him and think as highly of him as I did before.

That's wonderful that you'd uproot your entire life for money.

Obviously, everyone is making assumptions about a partial truth. We don't know the details and were never meant to be privy to this much, and the majority thinks they can pass judgment on another.

Kiprusoff did uproot his entire life for money, he could made a decent living in his beloved Finland playing 20 years in the Finnish league. He chose the 10s of millions the NHL has to offer by signing a long term contract, now that 95% of the money has been paid, he wants to change the rules, not right.

Sportsnet is reporting that there were complications with his wife during birth (baby is fine) and she can't move now, and he doesn't want to leave her. If people can't understand and respect tbat decision because "he's a hockey player, and he made a choice to do that".........well then you're heartless, and i feel sorry for your families.

I wonder if iginla would be getting this knd of hate if he refused to waive his ntc? Doubt it.

Get off your high horse, if that is the case, his wife is incapacitated, he should take an immediate leave of absence. Going on road trips for a week at a time certainly isn't putting family first.

If that's the case, then he has every right not to report....Family always comes 1st, but with only a few games left into the season, and these owners owning JETS to fly back and forth, should be discussed to help his situation

All indications are that he's retiring after this season........would you prefer he walked away now?

This guy kept your franchise afloat for a decade, and you guys turn on him because he doesn't want to uproot his newborn baby and sick wife, just so your team can what, get a 2nd rd pick for him......

And i'm sorry, are you really comparing a week long road trip to him moving to a different city......and most likely different country.

How does Kipper not have a No Movement Clause? Feaster hands them out like they are free candy.

Career 4th liner? No movement clause.

NHL/AHL Tweener? No movement clause.

Matt Stajan? No movement clause.

pretty sure he worked one into his own contract...probably the only reason he's still employed.

I am saying if his wife is very sick, why is he playing at all, would you go to work if this was your wife? Not like the Flames season matters anyway.

Seems like he wants everything on his terms, whats next, he will only play home games?

i don't think "complications" necessarily means she's really sick. it certainly means she can't move, especially with a new born baby. i'm sure 4 days away here, and a week there isn't the end of the world.....but if he's traded, then depending on where he goes, he could conceivabley not be back to calgary AT ALL for 2-3 months.......THAT'S the difference.

i think he'd have WAY more value next year then he would right now. that contract for another year is REAL hard for teams to swallow.

Family comes first ALWAYS!! It sucks for the flames, but at the end of the day, his responsibility is to his family MUCH MORE than to the flames
- sensarmy_11

Family does come first. But this isn't just some regular 9-5 job... Guys get traded all the time and the players are fully aware of this. It's not like this is something new. If he was so concerned about being moved then he could have opted for an NTC when he signed his contract...

And like Ive said a few times now, whats wrong with staying for the rest of the year, easing Ramo into the role next year and accepting a trade as a rental a few months into the season? He would get what he wants (somewhat), give the team time to prepare, and a few assets to call it a day.

i agree....i said that yesterday. he has FAR MORE value to the flames as a mentor for a young guy, then he does as trade fodder right now. and then next deadline, if a team wants some depth for a playoff run, you move him for a pick or prospect.

i dont' understand all these flames fans turning on him for this decision, especially when the return for him (if he could be moved at all) would have been mediocre at best.

when he signed his contract, he may not have foreseen the situation he's currently going through...........maybe he wanted the NTC and the flames refused to give it to him.....who knows.

Chiarelli himself just said on the radio that they will not trade Subban.

Edit: Chiarelli never gives up info like that in interviews. He said Subban could be in the NHL in 2-3 years or sooner.

So are you also saying that that when he signed his contract he wasnt aware that it'd be possible he can be traded? Come on....Trades have always been in the game and always will be.

Who knows. Wouldn't be the first time a GM says that a certain player wont be moved, then gets moved

I agree, it was just odd that he would actually say that publicly because he never gives anything up like that.
