Speaking of which, maybe with all the work Murray Edwards did during the lock out, Bettman will do him a solid and fix the lottery in our favour
- TandA4Flames

Don't worry, I'm sure there will be plenty of high school players nobody has heard of no matter where the Flames pick.

Family comes first ALWAYS!! It sucks for the flames, but at the end of the day, his responsibility is to his family MUCH MORE than to the flames
- sensarmy_11

Then take a leave of absence and let the flames keep the money

Easily. I just don't like the idea of ppl forgetting all he has done, to use one 'get out of jail (trade) card'. And after the initial frustration dies down, I think they will.

It is too bad, since none of this crap is his fault. It is ME, KK, DS and JF's.

I just hope next yr is the start of something new. Tonight was an embarrassment.

In the end, he wouldn't have gotten much anyway. I get it that ppl wanted to hit the lotto, and this likely keeps them out of it. I am sure they will hit the lotto in '14 and '15 anyways, so it will work out in the end. Though I wish it wasn't this way, and they could be a professionally run franchise that didn't require such an ugly and bitter rebuild.

you r right tho, managment should have never leaked it. terrible mng group! i see your point in him deserving it because of what hes done for the team, but i just have a hard time feeling sorry for the guy. we will have to agree to disagree. either way great goalie, poopty that this was made public

I need someone to really sell Jay Bouwmeester to me. I don't see him play a lot but from the stats I don't see his play better than what it was in FLA. I know he's playing better this year but how much better? Calgary fans help me here

I also don't know what's worth trading for his 6.68 cap hit

- AlfieisKing

He's being a legit top pairing guy this year, big minutes, jumping into the play, playing in all the toughest situations against the best players on each team, never misses a game. He's even being a little more physical this year. His style of pay will allow him to play for many more years and be effective so no worries of being older, he s only 29.

Does that help?

You don't think Iggy said no last yr or the yr before? But, instead of Kipper, they didn't leak the info?
I wouldn't be so sure to rush to that judgment. I am sure Iggy was asked at some point before last week. Yet, it's easy to bash Kipper and impossible to bash Iggy, because one was never leaked so can't be proven.

At this point it doesn't matter. Like it was said, hopefully he helps mentor Ramo. I wouldn't count on it though, unless he likes playing for 1.5mm

Calm down dude, I was kidding around.

Oh just shut up! How was your fixed draft for you. Easy to pick 1st overall.

This is bad news for the Flames who need the assets to rebuild. I get the family comes first sentiment but let's be real for a second. Kipper makes so much money, relocating isn't the issue. His pride is.

It seems pretty selfish to me. Flyers may have the same type of problem with briere apparently may not waive his NMC if asked. Although he is hurt so it may no matter.
- PhillyFran

But the difference their is he received a NMC in his contract. He doesn't have to waive it if he doesn't have to. Kipper does not have one and his being selfish.

How has he been progressing at BU?? I saw a prospect analysis on twitter today via NHL Young Guns Daily (@YoungGunsDaily) that talked about him, check it out its pretty cool and the prospect reports are fairly well done.

Tough one. Dions way more physical, but bouwmeester doesnt make as many defensive errors.
Salary in dions favour abit, bouwmeester more reliable for big minutes.

Close, but ill say jaybo

He really looked incredible at the world juniors. I think he will surprise some ppl and become the future best player of the flames. His talent is absolutely top notch but I haven't seen him play at BU

I created a hb account just to throw in my 2 bits lol. I have 3 kids all under 3yrs old and my youngest is under 1 month. If I had an opportunity to earn over $5MILL/year and support my family by moving to (insert worst place kipper could be traded here) for a year or two... my wife and I would decide to make that sacrifice in a heartbeat!!!

Hire help around the house. Fly your family/friends in to visit every other week.

You ppl who make it sound like he's noble for choosing family first are being silly. Life is about choices and he had a choice at one point to negotiate a full NTC/NMC and sacrifice a bit of pay. Now he decides he wants both. All the pay and all the control. It's childish. Disappointing.

But I do agree that I am more frustrated than this whole situation is worth. Kippers stats are no longer amazing and there is a surplus of tenders who don't eat up so much cap. So at the end of the day who cares I guess. It'll just be hard to watch him and think as highly of him as I did before.

Not sure how true but it has been mentioned it may be due to his wife having complications from the birth. I am disappointed we dont have the option to trade him if a good offer were to fall on Feasters lap, but, really, he has more value to the Flames next year as opposed to some scarce return. My concern is he looked pretty good tonight & I really dont want him screwing up our lottery pick. If his wife's health is an issue, people, cut him a break. Were all cranky about the state of our Flames & our patience is growing thin on this Iggy trade not trade fiasco. This team knows Iggy is leaving & they have given up. This is about as disgusting as the fact that we have one of the highest payrolls in the league. Its time for huge trades & cleanhouse. 7 days. Lets get er done. If Kippers wife is in any difficulty I think Flames should just let him take a leave of absence & get his family healthy. Personally, its the flames own fault, they should have been moving these guys way sooner when they had way more value. Its gonna be a long rebuild.

Does Kiprusoff have a NTC or NMC if he does then that is his right is it selfish yes. If Kiprusoff does not have a NTC or NMC then the flames could take legal actions agienst Kiprusoff because he would be in breach of contract.

I know Kiprusoff hasn't been amazing this year, but losing him is just another punch in the gut for Calgary. Do you have another starter ready to go? You will probably trade Iginla, Kipper is done after this year, and you might even trade JBo...

Calgary will have some serious problems without those three in the lineup on the reg.

Not that he would fetch a lot now anyway, but the birth of his child was probably planned by him and his wife to coincide with the reduction of pay for next year. Either he plays in Calgary and stays close to his family or he retires and goes home without giving up "much" money. Kipper has always struck me as not being the best team guy, but more a family man. He is a Flame, but he always came off a little disconnected from the rest and now he's nearly ready to get on with the rest of his life.
