Remember the 84 Tigers? They came out of the gate with the best start in the history of baseball at 35-5. They hit a malaise after that and were a little over average the rest of the way. They traded a hot prospect at the deadline for what they thought was the missing piece in Doyle Alexander and ended up with a parade at the end of the year. The prospect was John Smoltz.

I can see both sides of the argument. I say if they feel it gives them better than even odds at the cup, they have to seriously consider moving TT if that is the only way the deal happens.

I just read that Kiprusoff has told the Flames that he will not report to his new team if he is traded due to family concerns...

Well, there goes LA's chances for Iginla. They wanted a serviceable backup in return for the Bernier package from what I have read.

MEMO to John McDonough.

Wanna win a Cup? Hire a competent, experienced GM. Let him do his job, by himself and his staff. If he doesn't replace him.

The end.

- blackhawk24

Who takes this job if this is known league wide the GM doesn't actually make the choices? It's a crime that all these buffoons can't fix problems that the fans see. I understand trades but c'mon free agency is open for fixing these issues too.

Nice reference, and I agree. If they trade TT for a rental...they better F'ing win the Cup.

Chris Kuc said there are 14 NHL scouts at this game.

Make that seats for 14 scouts from NHL teams listed on United Center press box chart for #Blackhawks-Flames. 7 from each conference.

Hopefully they're looking at us not Calgary.

Yes, I remember--in April I had tickets to go to the Sox-Tigers game during the day and the Blackhawks-North Stars playoff game at night. I only went to the Blackhawks game (which the 'Hawks lost), deciding to skip the Sox game. And Jack Morris threw a no-hitter that day! Kicking myself ever since.

Forgive me if this has been said, reading from my iPhone onboard a flight to Tampa, but Spector reports that Calgary contacted Chicago after Jerome indicated his willingness to player there, and that neither team has yet traded proposals.

Know that season well cuz the Cubs should have played them in the WS if it were not for Lee Smith and Leon Durham.

Big cats went exactly .500 after that 35-5 start. And every baseball fan knows the eventual outcome of Alexander / Smoltz. The Tigers still won the WS though. That counts most.

Kudos to the 'guins for getting out front of the other contenders on their moves; whether or not we agree with Shero's line of thinking...

I'm sure they are looking at Calgary. I would guess that almost every game will have 10+ scouts attending for the next week.

So that would date his editorial! JJ's info is more current I assume.

To me the outcome of that trade was a tie. Each team won one world series because of the players swapped. Although I still have no idea how the Braves only won once during that run they had.

Since Sharp was injured, the Hawks are 3-4-0. Coincidence?

I'd be all for Bolland and McNeil to PHX for Vermette. Only about $400K more in cap space, and true #2C, with a good FO% and can play on the PK/PP.

Not sure if that would get it done, but PHX get's a good shut down C, more cap space, and a good C prospect in return...Then add a Matt Martin or a Hendricks for some size/grit for a package of prospects not named TT, Danault, Johns, and a pick

Saad/Toews/Kane
Sharp/Vermette/Hossa
Bickel/Shaw/Stalberg
Frolik/Krugman/Martin or Hendricks

2nd line C addressed, and more toughness...

- nelli312

I wonder if the Hawks are waiting on Danault's junior season to end so they can bring him up to be the center a lot of us are pining for.

I'd like Shawn Matthias off the Panthers. His face off % isn't any better that Bolland or Shaw, but he's the only plus on a horrible Panthers team full of minus players.

I hope they don't rush Danault and I'd like to see him get more playoff experience with Moncton.

I hope the Flames lose 9-3, with Iggy getting the hatty.
