If Jagr in his prime can be traded for guys named Beach, Sivik an Lupaschuk can happen... So can this deal.
- PENS FAN in CANADA

I remember the look on Craig Patrick's face the day he traded Kovy. Saw a similar look on Feasters face last night.

Absolutely....I really hope he fits in the lineup....I also hope he re-signs there this year and establishes some more chemistry with Crosby. I want to see him in Sochi next year!
- The-O-G

yeah... I actually see Pittsburgh being able to resign him... cap will be difficult but we may have the top front office in the league, or at least it sure is up there. morrow? doubt it... his young daughter said it best, in response to the question about her daddy moving away.. "it's only for a couple months and then daddy will be home with a cup" murray... if they go past the 2nd round I think they resign him if he plays decent, if the go early I think he walks so they don;t lose another 2nd rounder.

It was retired for Bob Errey.....
Mainly for having to tolerate Steiggy

- Rawdog9755

No easy feat.

I'd love a broadcast team of Lange, Bourque, Errey and Potash/King.

I completely understand Pens fans being happy (this might have locked up a Cup for you), bu if you are a Pirates fan as well, this should feel a bit like the Yankees "I will take your best player, give you my trash, and you will suck on it and like it" dealings with the AAA clubs which are masquerading as MLB teams. It's just in this case you are not on the sucking end of things.
- MadCap2008

So your saying as a Pirates fan I earned this? Difference is there is a salary cap in place to keep teams competitive. Calgary backed themselves into a corner by not blowing this up years ago and getting a great return. That is not anyones fault other than their own. I don't feel bad for the organization it was self inflicted. Pirates are victims of big market teams having the money to take their players via free agency so they have to take what they can get. That isn't the case here it is a level playing field aside from the NMC/NTC which again was self inflicted.

You never know. Iginla might enjoy playing with high end talent soo much that he wants to stay here for 2 more years. IF the Pens don't win the cup, he still might be hungry to do so. Too many factors to say it is set in stone that he is going back to Calgary after this season is over.
- cap1681

there's no way the pens can afford to keep him. not with the cap going down next season

I don't want to count any chickens before they hatch but, I would be completely okay with him actually letting him not only take it first, but I'd go as far as him accepting it. I doubt that'd happen just because of tradition but I'd cry like a baby if it did.
- HopintheCordoba

remember sakic and bourque? sakic took it and immediately handed it to ray... kept tradition and made it known who was the priority... that seen still makes me kinda choked up

Malkin is centering Neal and Morrow in the morning skate and taking the line rushes. Looks like 71 is back in tonight.

You're missing the point. Iginla would have went to any of the 4 teams. He ended up in Pittsburgh because Feaster took a less attractive deal to send him where he wanted to go most.

Good job being a good man.

Bad job being a GM.

- canadianpenfan

I hate to say this but I think you are wrong on this one dude! Iggy listed who he would CONSIDER, but at the end of the day, he's the one that signs off ANY deal.

He was presented 3 offers, and said "I want to go to Pittsburgh"

End of story.

Don't 35 and over contracts have slightly different rules? I'm pretty ignorant about the new CBA, but the Chris Pronger deal comes to mind. I think it's possible.

It's ultimately going to come down to how much he likes Pittsburgh, and if he's willing to make less money to play here.

Well, obviously we have a rapist in Pittsburgh. He's climbin' in yo windows, he's snatchin' yo people up, tryin' to rape 'em. So y'all need to hide yo kids, hide yo wife, and hide yo captains cause Shero be rapin' everybody out here

It depends on what he is looking for money wise. He has made a buttload of money over the past 10-15 years, and that probably wont be a driving factor in his decision. If the Penguins can get him for 3 to 3.5 mil a year, it's worth a look.

I hope so. Who wouldn't want Iginla to stay? It's just my believe that this what a 3 month rental to increase our chances to win the Cup. If he stays for longer, it's a bonus.

I did....hopefully Iggy's press conference clears things up. What Feaster said was open to interpretation. Rumour in town here is Iggy blocked the deal to Boston. Hence the shock and awe last night.

yeah but there are two guys by the names of Malkin and Letang, and their contract negotiations come far before anyone else on this current roster.

I bet Malkin signs for $9 million or less. Letang will be interesting. He could probably make $7 million or more as a UFA, but I have a feeling he signs with us for $5 million - $6 million. Wishful thinking? Probably, but hopefully not.

Absolutely, but with Malkin, they cap hit won't change much, and if Letang gets signed, his contract doesn't go into effect until 2014-2015, in which the cap will hopefully be higher then the 64 mil for next year.
