The Staal trade keeps on giving. Having two 1st round picks last year probably made it easier to deal this year's.
Have fun playing with your brother though... |

When you think of it, the 1st round pick is going to be a late 1st...close to a second possibly. the two prospects were 3rd and 5th rounders. Calgary did not get much out of this but at least its something I suppose. Now Shero needs to move a couple others for some backfilling of picks. |

If we managed to hold onto Staal, we would have been to tight to the cap that Shero wouldnt be able to swing these moves I am guessing. |

I don't usually tread in the main blog but I couldnt resist today, this is pretty good:
The actions of the Pens represent what ails the NHL. A team already loaded with highly paid players, loading up with even more highly paid players with seemingly no end to their bankroll or any care for the salary cap. The league should impose a limit on the addition of "franchise" calibre players during a season, otherwise how do other fiscally responsible teams ever compete? Why does a team with the best record in the Eastern conference need to add another team's top player? What bullsh*t. How about we allow them to add Subban, Anderson, Alfredsson, Gaborik, Zajac too? I'm sure they're not done adding yet...what a joke. I will be so happy to see this team out in the first round. Yankees anyone? - jaz258

Woke up this morning and, sure enough, it wasn't a dream.
Had to come back in and say again, Shero got it done for you guys. Great trade. Congrats, and enjoy the ride.

The target on the back just got that much bigger!!
Question time...which team had a better roster on paper?
92-93 Pens, or this years version?
Remember when we had Konstantin Koltsov and Ramzi Abid?? Yeah me either..... |

I have seen some doozies. Some idiot thinks this is all on Bettman. Pittsburgh is allowed to be given all of these players. Idiots like this don't understand, everyone has the same rules; same cap. One thing they don't have is the same GM and desire to win. That is the difference.

One point to make is that while there will be many fans who will take a dislike to the Penguins and make Miami Heat references, just as many will be rooting for Iginla (maybe more). |

This could end up with one huge celebration or one big utter disappointment. Better win the whole thing because these three acquisitions won't be around next year.

The reason why you can never underestimate the true effect of a competent and capable GM. Ray Shero is a rare breed...
That said, this team has considerable pressure come playoff time. |

Very, very true. Not in Boston for sure...but plenty of fans elsewhere will be at least be pulling for him. |

I'll be happy for him if he gets his name on the Cup.
What I really like is that he wanted to go to the Pens and Feaster made it happen. At least that's what I'm hearing. Makes you wonder just how close that deal with Boston really was.
