You mean a healthy scratch?
- Deadstar

Exactly, you got it. A healthy scratch ready to contribute if called upon. Depth forward....but with his $3M next year I kind of gave up on the idea.

But he has a 2 way contract, so why just send him down like Despres and call him back up in a bit
- drummer829

The contract type(2way vs 1way) has no bearing on whether a player is waiver eligible when being sent down. All it does is define what that player will be paid in the NHL vs minor leagues. Waiver eligibility has to do with games played and/or dressed depending on whether the player is a goalie(games played) or skater(games dressed). Too long to type, but if you want the full answer here it is:

Couldnt they pick him up and just buy him out in the offseason? Im not in favor of the idea but that would be an option.

Interesting---not really---well maybe---or not---possibly

From Scott Cullen on TSN:

Pittsburgh Penguins - After acquiring Brenden Morrow and Douglas Murray, the Pittsburgh Penguins may not be quite as desperate to add Iginla, but if the price is right, his offensive ability could help put them over the top in their bid for the Cup. Winger Beau Bennett seems like he's fitting in with the Penguins already, so he could be harder to pry away, but there are still a number of defence prospects including Simon Despres, Derrick Pouliot, Olli Maatta, Brian Dumoulin, Scott Harrington, Philip Samuelsson or Robert Bortuzzo could help form the cornerstone of a deal. Forward prospects, aside from Bennett, aren't as appealing, but perhaps collegiate prospect Kenneth Agostino (96 points in 97 career games at Yale) or Tom Kuehnhackl would be viable for inclusion.

Despres, Bennett and Harrington are definitely not going anywhere. Since they lost Morrow, trading Pouliot, another offensive defenseman like Morrow, would seem odd.

I loved how Morrow stuck up for his teammates after the 1st shift and after a day of knowing them (except Neal and Nisk), but you got that sense of the team player he is. I'm hoping Murray is exactly the same.

Even though I want the pens win streak to continue, I really wouldn't mind seeing Zatkoff get a start and see what he can do.

I'm guessing that we will see a fight from both of these guys in one of the remaining home games.

If you want a look at the PR side of the Pens and the job that Jennifer Bullano does, check out this article. It's a pretty good read:

We could get 2 straight cups if we play our best hockey with this roster. I'd add Douglas Murray to the core as well

I encourage him sticking up for the team and being a big tough guy on the ice, but hopefully he shows the discipline and doesn't take any stupid penalties at crucial times.

He's a wait and see approach... we'll have to evaluate his skating ability in the pens system.... If he does well I see no problem trading Brooks Orpik and retaining him.

I can see Murray taking the same heat Gill did. He's not a fast guy and people will talk bad about it but we have to see his hockey IQ and decision making. Hope he does well enough to rough some guys out of the box without taking penalties.

Murray is strictly a rental. I get that sense from Shero's comments. We shall see.

We let our rental go and we suffered on D after our 08/09 cup I mean, Gill was an important piece alongside Scuderi...if Murray does well, I wanna see him getting an extension for sure

Yea, but if the pens do make a long playoff run, then Murray's price goes up.

I don't expect his price to go up any further than what he makes now...perhaps.
Murray is 33 years old and makes $2.5M I think...

Do you have any idea on how much will be Sutter's next contract? I'm shooting $4M per...
