Well I don't see why St. Louis would have interest unless his cost was far lower than you suggest which it considering his production and cost.
St. Louis doesn't need wingers one bit. Left shot Dmen and a center are more up their alley. St. Louis wingers: Steen, Oshie, Tarasenko, Perron, Stewart and McDonald for their top six. The lowest goal count for the wingers belongs to McDOnald who has three goals but 13 points in 21 games. Stewart has 15 goals, Perron 9, Steen 6 but 21 pts, Oshie 7, Tarasenko 6 in 21 gp. The only place I could possibly see Stafford fit in would in place of McDonald and for the depth. Keep in mind another first round pick Schwartz who has shown high end offensive flashes plays on the fourth line but has been moved up to the first line when injuries occurred. In the pipes the Blues have wingers like Jaskins and Villeux and Ty Rattie.
So why when they need to sign Stewart, Berglund, Petro and Shattenkirk just to name a few RFAs at the end of the season would a team that is budget conscious add $4million to their pay roll when the guy has been terrible this season? Only way they would add payroll on a winger is if the winger offered a significant upgrade over what they put on the ice now and in the future. That would mean someone more like Vanek if they were to go for a winger.
So no way they take on Stafford unless the cost is minimum. Look to a forward, left shot Dman and less likely but still possible a goaltender.
Best move by the Sabres all year--firing Ruff. ABout time!! Now Reiger. |

Stafford isnt an upgrade over Andy McDonald?
Instead of resigning McDonald, you'll have a cheaper contract in Stafford for 2 years, and a player who is relatively healthy and a 30 goal scorer 2 seasons ago. I'd say a 27 year old Stafford is an upgrade over a 35 year old McDonald.

stafford being scratched doesn't seem to bode well for his prospects of being a sabre by next thursday...
at the same time, scratching stafford for 5 more games is pretty intense, i guess we'll see. hopefully they trade him before the end of the weekend... |

I am envious of there prospect depth, particularly at center.......Coyle, Granlund, Larsson, Phillips all centers. Zucker and Bulmer on the wing and Dumba, Brodin and Cuma on defense. |

They shouldn't be going all in this year IMO and trading any of them. They aren't the best team in the west and they have Parise, Suter in their prime for another 3 years. In 2 years when Granlund, Brodin, and Coyle are making impacts, then they should make a serious run and grab rentals. IMO they shouldn't be trying to add guys like Stafford or Regehr right now at the expense of their prospect depth |

I completely agree with your assessment. Zucker I think would be a great contributer as well. But you have to give to get. He'd be the one I'd be most willing to move for a piece to the puzzle. They shouldn't move their centers. Like you said in a couple years you'd have Koivu, Coyle & Granlund......solid. |

So how's everyone going to feel when Darcy's only move is to trade Leopold for a 2nd rounder and then talks about how "the market just wasn't there."
Hope I am wrong, but I just don't see Darcy having the onions to move a "big-name" off this team.
We will then start talking about the big moves coming in the summer...and again nothing will happen.
Again, hope I am wrong, but until Pegula wakes up and gets a new GM, it's rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat...
