Well at least I'm not the only one who feels this way. I know Ruff was there a long time, and that longevity only comes with respect and doing at least a decent job. But to me his years of real success only came with superior goaltending in Hasek and Miller, otherwise his teams seemed to be mostly mediocre. But I won't sit here and act like I know or followed everything about Sabres hockey over those years. Just my observations as hockey fan. That being said I'm quite happy we hired Cooper

why are people surprised when teams overpay at the deadline? if you needed a guy with potential that could need a change of scenery and maybe a defenseman that's cheapish but not great you would probably do it. i really like the idea of stafford + leo out, penner + prospect or pick in. get stafford off of the books!!

Seriously though, when looking at it from the Bolts perspective, Cooper was the only guy for the job. He won the Calder last year with the same guys he is now coaching in Tampa. The 10 guys from Cuse now playing in Tampa all are "NHL ready" and quite frankly have been some of our best players this year. It was a no brainer except that too many in the media take the "easy route" which is why they said hire Ruff. Meanwhile in real life Cooper gets to continue coaching the same players he led to the Calder last year and that opportunity doesn't happen very often.

i think he would make a pretty great 3rd line center for us. he's got this year and next year at 3 million. he plays with an edge and can score. i wonder what carolina is up to...
