I think you're right...
My response stemmed from a post about trading a young guy for Toffoli like the Kassian for Hodgson deal last year
I was saying if we moved a young guy, my preference would be him over Grigorenko...
But I agree,
We are way more likely to move Vets than our young guys - jdfitz77
I'd trade Catenacci first. He's a headcase. He has a huge attitude problem and is small.
He'd be the most likely to get moved before Girgorenko or Girgensons. Especially because I doubt he plays center when he get to the higher levels anyway.
Girgensons has had more of a down year than I think most people expected, but we all need to realize that he's an 18 year old playing in a league with guys that are 2+ years older than him. He is more of a grinder type guy, but he's got way more upside than Gaustad ever did. |

OO good point. Miller on the Hawks. I still don't think they trust Crawford or Emery for a playoff run. |

If a team was willing to overpay I would do it in a heartbeat. You can worry about addressing toughness and emotion after you've acquired enough talent to be relevant in your division/conference. - Sabresfan-365
If we're going to retool, Ott is an ideal roleplayer to have here. If we're going to rebuild, then he's an ideal leader for the new/young guys. Short of a 50 goal scorer, who do we need more than Ott? Then the question is who has a 50 goal scorer to spare? |

Yea I could see that but my front runners would be Detroit and Vancouver. Those two are reaching the end of their competitive era so they might be more inclined to overpay for one last kick at the can. |

So are you alright with Crawford playing here then? Because if you're sending Miller to them, that's what you're getting in return. Plus maybe a pick. I don't think that's upgrading our team in any way, other than opening up some cap space. |

It's not a requirement we get a goalie in return for Miller. |

I agree with this. I think either way you look at it, Ott is one of the vets they shouldn't look to move. That being said, if they got a killer return for him, I'd be ok with it. But you're not going to get that from a team that's on the cusp in the first place. You may get an uproven guy or two and a pick. And then who do you have to mentor them?
I don't like a 1st as the main compensation for him since whatever team that is would probably end up picking in the 20+ range in the draft. I think he's more valuable to the team than that. |

From the organization's perspective, it's not about who's career are we wasting being poopty, it's about who is part of the problem and who is part of the solution. |

Someone needs to take Myers out. He's playing well and now the team is winning. We need him to go back to being not so great. |

What if the Sabres draft a goalie in the first would that mean they will be trying to trade Miller during the summer.....Thoughts |

Not saying I wouldn't want him around. I would love to keep him and he would be a great influence. My point is you need to acquire the young talent first. I know we have high hopes for all these players in the system but the depth just isn't there. Sabres fans make it seem like Ott is the only player on the planet with any leadership, that's just not true. I'm sure there's at least one player in the system or in the draft we could take that could evolve into a true leader. If you're retooling then yea I would keep him but if they are indeed going for some next poop rebuild his leadership won't matter until the kids are fully developed and he'll be like 34 by then. |

Very few goalies make it from the draft right to a team. And they already have 4 goalies in the system behind Enroth, so it wouldn't make a difference in how they want to handle Miller. |

He would be a steal at 11, great playmaking ability (picture Ennis only better). Max Domi and Rasmus Ristolainen are also pretty good. I still think we end up drafting between 5-8 though. |

There's already a lot of young talent in the system.
Ennis
Foligno
Tropp
McNabb
Pysyk
Girgensons
Armia
Grigorenko
Flynn
There would probably need to be another player or two to acquire in some way or another, but there's already young talent here.
EDIT: I just reread what you said and wanted to add more. They have plenty of young leadership here already as well. Hodgson, Foligno, and Girgensons. But it helps them to develop if they have a veteran leader to learn from |
