Tavares isn't in Crosby's class, that isn't a knock on him, no one else is either. I think Tavares might be the equivalent of Malkin in time. It isn't outlandish to suggest that.
- PLindbergh31

The thing is that Tavares doesn't have Malkin's explosiveness which will hold him back from that level.

I see Tavares as a less injured (let's hope), more goal scoring version of Jason Spezza.

To an extent, I agree. But even Crosby needs someone to finish the shots to get him his assists.

My point was, when you have only 1 solid line to worry about, it makes it easier on the D.

I agree, but Tavares is still not even close to Crosby's level. No one is.

Tavares is a stud no doubt about it.

As you stated who is in Sid's class? Not many, if any.

Off the top of my head:
Stamkos
Malkin
Gervais
Foster
Datsyuk

That was 06-07 and even so, look at the roster the Pens had that year. Other then Crosby, Malkin and Staal, the next highest goal scorer was a 38 year old Mark Recchi who had 24.

Yeah, just noticed that I was a year off as I was looking through the points leaders.

When was the last time the flyers actually outplayed the other team. Washington?

No one is in Crosby's class. No one is close. IMO it's Crosby by himself, then on the second rung you have guys like Datsyuk, Malkin, Toews, Stamkos, then Giroux would be with guys like Tavares, Kane, etc...

Does anyone think Jokinen will make it through Florida, Colorado, Calgary and Tampa? I think he might be a good pick-up, with Briere hurt/sucking. Would be a good 3rd liner next season, a depth two-way forward that can score.

I'd be interested, but that $3mm cap hit next year is worrisome with the limited cap space the Flyers have right now and the need for defense help.

By adding him would it allow them to move another forward in a trade (at deadline)?

Per CSN Philly, line combinations:

McGinn - Giroux - Voracek
Hartnell- Schenn - Simmonds
Gagne - Talbot - Read

Solid argument.

I'm all for whatever system gets us wins. And it's my opinion this team is under-performing across the board. However, I would argue our problems are driven primarily by an anemic offense more than a poor defensive system.

- wolfhounds

The lack of offense at times is due to the poor team play and team defense. Play better in all 3 zones, and play better defensively. And they'll score more goals.

Guy Boucher's scar has mystical properties, legend has it.

But I agree with you. However, I would rather have the team lose and get a better draft pick (and I'm sure I'll get berated by some for that) because I think that's what would be best for the team going forward.

Sure, but what's stopping them now? They can recall Eric Wellwood, Rob Bordson or give another kid, like Jason Akeson, Ryan Flanagan or Mitch Wahl a look.

Yeah I know .... I don't think Lavy tried that combo yet .... Maybe they click who knows. I'm happy to see that 3rd line back together though (Gags- Talbot- Read). Philly's best line the last few games.
