I wouldnt call Homer a puppet....you dont listen to your boss when he tells you to do something?
- nonpoint22

My boss has been out of office for the last 3 weeks and no one knows why...

I think it's deeper with Snider and his GM. They do his bidding most of the time. Snider wants to win another Cup before he dies. He's running out of time so he forces moves.

I think Snider is a puppeteer and Holmgren is the puppet. That's why I give more blame to the owner. I believe Holmgren would be all for developing players and such if Snider wasn't constantly in his ear.
- NickTheKid87

Good point. Bryz is here because Snider basically ordered Holmgren to sign him. Since Holmgren's job prior to being GM was running the scouting dept and overseeing the draft, I have to think that if the decision had been solely up to Homer, he would have held onto to Bob and signed a veteran like Giguere or Theodore to compliment him.

The last Flyer GM who wasn't afraid to stand up to Snider was Keith Allen, funny how he's also the last Flyer GM to win a cup!

Maybe your boss is applying for the soon to be vacant head coaching position with the philadelphia flyers

I think this is overblown. Snider most probably influenced Homer to get Bryz, but he's no Jerry Jones.
- Flyskippy

Definitely not but I don't think Snider will be content if they don't always try to "win now". He's not getting any younger.

I think it has more to do with the philosophy of the team as a whole. They don't really have a plan and try to win last year's Cup as it's been said time and time again. I feel like that's more on Snider being on management's case than anything else.

Don't get me wrong, I love that Snider is so passionate about the team. I'd rather have that than I guy who's just trying to sell tickets.

I think Holmgren is given the GM reins, but under the condition that he fulfills certain demands from the owner. However, when those demands include four enormous contract offers over the past two summers (the only one of which ended up in donning the Flyers orange was Bryz), it kind of handcuffs you in making other moves, or in taking the team in a consistent direction.

The fact that he's in his 80s and wants another cup before he bows out is another concern

Yea I agree as well drouin is good because of McKinnon

MacKinnon...you mean the guy who got almost no playing time while Drouin was one of Canada's best players at this past year's WJC? That MacKinnon?

When you have a good team, you make more money. The Phillies found that out in 2007.

Snider knows that winning=cash but he also genuine wants the team to succeed from a fan POV.

MacKinnon being a center makes him more valuable in my eyes. Both should be great players regardless.

Edit: MacKinnon would have gotten more ice time if not for RNH and Huberdeau being eligible for the WJC.

If the flyers don't make the playoffs I'm sure we can still expect a ticket price increase next year. I agree he wants to win, but he will keep the money rolling in if they are bad or not. Still think he's one of the better owners in the league though. Just wish they could get away from the old boys club of hiring all ex members of the organeyezation

I agree and disagree. I think that in the case of Bryzgalov, Snider mandated the change. He didn't go out and say, "Homer, sign this guy!" but he made it abundantly and publicly clear that he wanted a big time goalie.

I also feel that Snider played a role in the trades of Richards and Carter. He is very involved.

I just wish they decide on a plan and stick to it. Every year it seems that we fill one hole and open up another. This year has been the worst for that.

That is true. But Giroux originally came in as a winger as well. Not saying all wingers can play center, but I've seen both play (only in the WJC) and Drouin was dynamic every time on the ice while MacKinnon, when he did get playing time, was a non-factor. I see them as the difference between Eberle and RNH. One's very explosive and can make something out of nothing, while the other is a very good player but doesn't appear to have the ability to be a game changer.
