So what you are saying is this dogpoop product we are watching is the product of ineptitude on Management, Players, and Coaches. That's a relief. I was worried.

I would say 45% coaching, 35% players under-performing, 15% owner and 5% GM.

Not often you see a young-ish two-way top-six forward get offered up for free... he owns the shootout too...

I don't think anyone on here is solely blaming the coaching.
- NickTheKid87

Could be. But quite a few think changing the coach is the "fix" we need where I tend to look at player performance first, as they are the ones actually on the ice making the plays, both good and bad.

And maybe changing the coach will help the team. I guess we'll see what Snider and Homer think.

The fact is the Flyers have enough talent to be a playoff team. That they are not falls mainly on the coach. I see several teams above them doing a lot more with a lot less.

Look at Ottawa. They're still battling with basically an AHL level roster. The Devils are ahead of them despite having every bit as bad a defense corps as the Flyers do.

The difference in those cities is, the coach recognized that without a disciplined system and good team defense, that those teams weren't going anywhere. So, while Laviolette played his precious system, the Sens and Devils adjusted for what they had on hand.

Laviolette knew last summer he wasn't going to have Pronger, Carle, Weber or Suter. He didn't make enough effective adjustments to fit his system to the roster and has utterly failed to instill discipline. Conversely, any team that uses a disciplined approach and plays solid defense gives the Flyers a hard time.

i would say we should pick him up just to be our shootout specialist, but we suck so bad, we can't even get to those in the first place.

Good thing indeed.

And who determines "valid"?

- wolfhounds

A logical and effective argument that he has done a good job. For instance, I point to his record against teams that play a responsible defense and a disciplined system such as Boston, New Jersey and the Rangers. Granted one could say those teams are more talented-I don't think the Devils are more talented, but OK...then I point at Tampa Bay who has given the Flyers the fits the last few years.

Or even Florida, who is terrible this year, but basically played the Flyers the same way the Devils and Rangers do, and won the last two meetings after getting killed 7-1.

We see numerous guys making ill advised decisions, like pinching from the point at inopportune times or the forwards being in bad position to receive outlet passes. Now, if that's one or two guys, its more the players. When you have a chronic issue of it, it's hard to blame a player or two. At that point it's systemic and the players are being coached to be too aggressive.

That's really what it boils down to for me. Laviolette has done a poor job of instilling discipline and holding guys accountable. Yes, he demoted Hartnell for a bad penalty-yet he still played a ton on the PP.

There are a lot of players playing under expectations, too. And the GM didn't make a lot of improvements to the roster. But at the same time, the coach got the roster he had, and failed to make effective adjustments to his system/style/scheme to get the best he could out of it.

I think Snider is a puppeteer and Holmgren is the puppet. That's why I give more blame to the owner. I believe Holmgren would be all for developing players and such if Snider wasn't constantly in his ear.

The team won't get a immediately better from a coaching change. I lot of things must be fixed. The thing is, Lavy doesn't adjust. He's had his chance and he still won't change.

I think this is overblown. Snider most probably influenced Homer to get Bryz, but he's no Jerry Jones.
